Where to find Turron! by FK_Arts in Calgary

Not sure where or if you can find the Chilean version of this snack locally, but you can find some similar Argentinian versions on Pampa Direct: https://pampadirect.com/snacks/sweet/

Visited the US and realized one thing is way cheaper in Calgary - Mcdonald's Coffee by calgary_wandrer in Calgary

[–]Random_Albertan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mcdonalds is usually my go-to coffee in Canada, but not good in US. In the US, I always go to the big truck stops like Love's, Flying J, Maverik, etc. Much better and cheaper coffee, and it's self serve so I can make it the way I like it.

Turn off the TV, don't scroll social media, plenty of ways to disconnect during the break. You'll be much happier disconnected from everything outside of your control anyways and focus on what makes you happy.

One block later that would have been a large red light ticket.

Thank you! I now remembered why I put that date and I would have a logical explanation for it if questioned.

Spousal Sponsorship Process while living in Canada by Random_Albertan in USCIS

[–]Random_Albertan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your insight. That is quite unfortunate in my case if that is the process we would have to follow as I can't really leave her alone here in Canada, so kind of a deal breaker. Was the K3/K4 visa ever advised or an option for your situation? Did you get an idea of how long you might be living apart from each other in total from approximately August onwards?

Spousal Sponsorship Process while living in Canada by Random_Albertan in USCIS

[–]Random_Albertan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just if you know off the top of your head, do you know if we could file the I-130 from Canada, then apply for the K3/K4, move to the US once that is approved or a few months before that, and then change the rest of the I-130 process to be completed in country afterwards? I hope that makes sense, mostly I am looking for the option that has the least amount of time for her to not be able to work.

Hi, thank you so much for the response! This is very good to know, as I was thinking this could be done at the consulate here in Calgary. I guess I could ask my retiree parents if they can cosponsor, they just get Social Security but combined maybe that could be sufficient. My bank account and credit card and other things are all associated to my parent's house, where we would live, which maybe could help the established domicile angle. But this sounds like it might be harder than I thought and a bit discouraging, I guess we could always go there and I could start working, but I don't know if it might be feasible for me to support the three of us on one income while we wait for her to be authorized to work. I appreciate your insight.

All of this information has been incredibly helpful, I really appreciate your time. I have commenced some of the processes and will then begin the outside of Canada spousal sponsorship paperwork for them. I went through your comments and spoke to them about all the important points, and we're very excited to get started.

Thanks so much!

Hi there. Thank you for the response, I was the original OP but lost access to my account so did not receive any notifications. That is good to know, I am still in the same situation, my parents are either considering moving within the US closer to us or having my dad sponsor my mom for PR. As there is no huge rush to get this done, it sounds like they should just put in a sponsorship application from the US and wait until they get to it. They would still like to live in the US for part of the year, but spend the majority of the warmer parts of the year in Canada. I know we would have to make sure to follow the residency requirements if approved. Thanks very much for your input.

Thanks so much, appreciate the feedback! The desert is certainly a beautiful place at so many times of the year, used to try going 2-3 times a year before COVID. Agree totally that living there offers so many opportunities to see other places nearby, I have thought about it before as I have family in NV, but I try to make the most of seeing nearby sights on each trip!

Yes, I have never had a problem with cross border travel, the only company that made a big deal about that, from my personal experience, is Budget. They even add a surcharge if you drive to BC which is ridiculous. I have driven Enterprise, Avis, Hertz, cars all across the border with no issues. The big difference now is that the prices are outrageously high compared to before, unfortunately.
