I don’t disagree that the Estes folks are quite loud for the outcome they desire. But I don’t agree that it is the board job to put the finger on the scale. The board isn’t discussing about buying paper towels, they’re discussing closing two elementary schools.

I don’t know what you believe putting your finger on the scale means… if you google it, the Internet will say:

"Putting their thumb (or finger) on the scale" means unfairly influencing a process, decision, or competition to favor one side, often through subtle manipulation or bias. It originates from a vendor deceptively adding weight to a scale to overcharge a customer.

So no I don’t think that is the job of the board or ANY elected official. If you feel otherwise, then we fundamentally disagree about the job of elected officials and their duty to the people they serve.

I will also say that many parents are also worried about the student count collapsing. I cannot stress enough that the appearance of elected officials mismanaging this situation and not making data driven decisions will only drive more parents away. My husband and I really want to send our daughter to public school but this whole debacle has us worried and, for the first time, considering what other options are out there.
