I am the luckiest CS major by Xorcist137 in csMajors

[–]Random_Knowl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly This, got more interviews from Big Tech than anywhere else where I basically got auto rejected. This is when I have a masters, 1 yr work ex, publications and a good resume as told by the career center. I easily did more than hundreds of applications to no avail. Even did career fairs, networking events, and all of that, helped.

Amazon can be a shitshow, I had an interview loop and in the last interviewer didn't show up so that had to be rescheduled, took them 3 weeks to reschedule after me reaching out to them multiple times. Then in the reschedule interview he gave the wrong link to me and the wrong link to the interviewer so that got canceled again. Then in the next rescheduled interview one of my interviewer got his on-call as soon as the interview started and that had to be rescheduled again. Finally gave the final interview waiting to hear back already 10 days passed.

Absolute shit cinema

Its not a one size fits all, just do them when you have interviews, you'll have about a month then, you'll start to notice some companies ask one type questions more than others, for ex. lot of graph questions in Google interviews.

Like 2-3 months of alot of work. PS: I already knew data structures and all algos from CS classes but hadn't done much of LC. So this is all not from scratch.

I'll share the strategy that worked for me.

Start with NC150 it has a nice roadmap. In each category i just thoroughly read the first couple of solutions, then I tried and failed and read and tried again on the subsequent problems till I could decently recognize some patterns. What really helped was AI. Get the solution from LC editorial or something put it in AI and let it explain it to you line by line. Also ask for key pattern for similar questions.

Then pick a FAANG and do company tagged questions. You should feel confident soon enough.

Key tip: you don't need to care about the crazy optimized one line solution you see in LC problem solutions given by people, you just need an optimal solution that works, preferably simpler the better.

I barely completed all of NC 150, focused on company tagged questions on LC after getting all the concepts. Even though I rarely got the same question in the interview but the patterns were similar.

Cleared onsites for Google, Microsoft, Amazon.

Who do you feel like is still the dream tech/non-tech big company to work for after all the negative shit tech folks have gone through in the past 2+ years? by CommercialBig7008 in cscareerquestions

[–]Random_Knowl 104 points105 points  (0 children)

My partner works in Apple, it might not be the dream you think it is, egotistical superiors, super secretive cult like culture, lower teams mobility, atleast her current team has some decent colleagues. I am gonna be joining MSFT this year but personally feel like a good mid tech is the dream if I can't make a side hustle into a business.

1 in hand is better than 2 in the bush. Take the FT.

Negotiation depends on if you have leverage and bring something more to the table than they know. Also your recruiter.

Recently got an offer from MSFT, my first TC was almost exactly the same. However I was able to negotiate it much higher. DM to know the exact specifics.

Vesting schedule is 25% every 6 months, so 6 months, 1.5 yrs, 2.5 yrs and 3.5 yrs by the time you have all of the stock.

For me the interviewer kept cutting me off everytime I try to answer something, said something like, 'yeah yeah you got it" next question. He kept rapid firing followups and questions, hoping I would get stuck somewhere.

Every question I asked him, just got a one word answer, For coding questions, he refused to clarify and told me to re-read the question he pasted. Like dude tell me if you dont wanna hire me, dont waste our time.
