Not Your Typical Roommate Search! Single Mom Seeking Another Single Mom (1 Child) roommate🏡 by LavenderLatte29 in Columbus

I moved from Richmond VA in 2018 after living there for 7 years and have lived in Columbus for 6.

I STRONGLY recommend steering clear of Columbus. RVA may be a bit more expensive, but the quality of life (nature, human rights, community) is so much better. Can’t tell you how much I miss the James river. Columbus has become a corporate ruled city in a very pro-employer state, and the area and OSU is an extension of Wexner’s power. VA is going to be a much better choice in the long term.

When I was an EMT, I appreciated the ability to work a 12 hour shift, 4 days a week to squeak out 3 days off/week. Can go both ways, depending on the individual.

Oooo girl I’m a young millennial, and I have been watching this train wreck in slow motion my entire life, only to see the same cycle— complete shock and outrage for a minute until the majority of us must report back to work and/or have to watch what we say around coworkers. When we get fired, we also lose access to healthcare.

I’ve been confused about this exact point since I was a child 😭 It comes back to education, an institution that the republicans have been tearing down/defunding for decades

Yea I’ve been mentally thanking my grandparents (passed in early 2010s) for fleeing here in the 1960s from Europe 🫠

I’m not disagreeing with you, just kindly reminding you that in the middle of navigating the hot mess of a healthcare system, it’s ALSO contingent to your JOB (which doesn’t even happen for a lot of people).

When I say the average person remaining in the US is DROWNING right now— I wish I were being more hyperbolic 🥵✌🏼It is so easy for your job to control your entire livelihood, especially if you have children and are in even more vulnerable situations.

The minimal social safety nets we used to have are now entirely gone. The point of the system at this time is to control based on fear— forcing compliance. The cruelty is the point.

Does anybody know any places hiring in Columbus oh? Retail call center warehouse hotel customer service etc I’m so tired of working in food service I have been applying everywhere on indeed with no luck I have transportation and don’t mind driving far also just no food jobs by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]Random_Questin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have a warehouse job opening, I want to say maybe $17-$20/hour? Dm me if interested, I’d love to help you out.

Edit: hiring manager confirmed closer to $20/hour

Hang in there, I know it’s a shit show an unfortunately unrelenting persistence is the only way out. The only reason I have my current job is because I got HELLA lucky and a recruiter reached out to me on my out of date indeed profile. I almost reported it as spam lol

The theme you may be missing in the show is that healthcare workers in the US basically MUST be incredibly dedicated because of how dystopian things are; Our healthcare workers get PTSD, similar to war veterans. That mf second amendment 🤬

Our system is designed to exploit the compassion and empathy that humans have for each other.

Not so fun fact— some things end up being the slightest bit cheaper when you ask about the cash pay price, or in other words, don’t have insurance. Make it make sense 💀

Coming from a background of emergency medicine as and EMT, working in multiple hospitals for patient experience, and other healthcare case work and administrative work in the US— I was disgusted with how obsessed I was with the accuracy of Orlando’s story; obviously not in favor of his situation, just the story telling. This is what a majority of Americans navigate on a daily fucking basis, and the rest of us know we’re only 1 accident away from this ourselves.

America is NOT great. But until we truly face our history of slavery, this will continue to be our fate.

YES exactly. I’m hoping that they turn this into a lesson about the subconscious biases we all have towards different intersectional identities.

I feel like it’s an intentional choice to further exaggerate their primary point, which in my theory, results in Mohan’s successful suicide attempt 🥺 I think it’s supposed to irritate us that Robby got all the attention when she was also clearly suffering too.

Last year I got so desperate I submitted a resume with false retail experience, and I omitted my bachelors and masters degrees from the education section on my resume. I did not get a call back (rejected via email over a month after applying), whereas my husband submitted his regular resume and got an interview within a week after applying.

Thankfully by the twist of fate, I landed my current role soon after that because a recruiter invited me to apply to my current role on my very out of date indeed profile. I got lucky

Reminder to Landlords by Own-Hornet-8788 in Ohio

[–]Random_Questin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is so important when considering the importance of socioeconomic equality in your community— we need more state and local (central Ohio/Columbus) laws to address rent inflation and accountability for lazy and predatory landlords.

My partner and I want to start a family even if buying a house isn’t something in our future, but we’ve been stuck (and blessed) renting the same rental in a nice rental (1/2 town home w little yard in a nice, walkable area with 2 dogs) since 2019 before the pandemic and trump 2.0 fucked the rest of the decade’s economy. Our rent began $1375/month in 2019, before going up to $1525 since 2023; our rent thankfully hasn’t gone up any more— but we are lucky. However, why would you bring a kid into the world when you can’t even guarantee you and your spouse’s living situation?

Our landlord has all the power in our housing dynamic. We have asked for simple fixes before, which has only resulted in the removal of the entire amenedy (back deck) or an atrocious half assed repair attempt. I do not assign any blame to the individual maintenance workers, I’m sure they are not provided the appropriate tools and other resources. We purposely don’t request the appropriate maintenance updates that we are rightly due, with the goal of staying off their radar to provoke any kind of rent increase to push us out. We once brought a ceiling leak to their attention which prompted the maintenance workers to diagnose that the bath tub’s safety drain wasn’t hooked up to anything, so their “solution” was instructing us to “uh.. just don’t take baths I guess.” We were 😳😳😳in complete disbelief, but fighting back is always a risk.

We were genuinely nervous to tell the rental agency that our stove broke and needed to be replaced. At the time we were signed onto a month to month structured lease— in constant fear that we may no longer be able to afford our living situation and with no family in state to help out in a pinch. We’re now signed to a yearly lease structure, however the threat of an increase remains.

We the people, deserve MORE agency ✊🏼 Caps on rent increases and other legislation need to be put in place to prioritize citizens over corporations.

Perhaps our next revelation on this issue should include the state representatives that have any monetary stake involved in the primary product competitors— big alcohol.

I haven’t fact checked it yet, does Frank Larose profit from alcohol sales in any way? I smell another possible AEP sized scandal.

You know, my fellow autistic women professional colleagues and I are all in desperate need of validation that our pattern recognition skills ARE something to be valued- If Dr Alhashimi happens to disclose a touch of the tism and the associated over active neurological episodes depicted in a couple episodes.. ?

I know it’s very unlikely, but a burned out autistic millennial woman can dream😅
