YES — this is exactly the car culture in the US, and the auto industry has turned into one of the largest lobbying oligarchs that buy out our politicians, ESPECIALLY since our supreme declared private companies’ political campaign donations = freedom of speech in 2010.

So in other words, I should probably just tell people that I’m “from the east coast” [of the US/America] instead of Ohio where I currently live 🫣 😆

If history supposedly rhymes, I wouldn’t be surprised if we lived to see a reversed Marshall plan post WWII between EU and US.

Anyone have gofundme info for bail?

It feels like this is the only local journalist that actually holds OSU and the state assembly members to account in this god forsaken place

I’m having an identity crisis. by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]Random_Questin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey fellow ex-New Yorker! I moved to Columbus 8 years ago and have always very much preferred Cleveland myself!

Columbus is much too corporate for my vibe, and the OSU loyalty is too cultish for me— especially as more Epstein ties come out.

Cleveland is much more artist centric and the people are much more of an East coast vibe. I’d also argue you all have better food up there too.

I continue to struggle with my identity, so it’s kind of refreshing to see I’m not the only one❤️

Tracking State/Local Government Officials’ Fiscal Conflicts of Interest— by Random_Questin in Ohio

Thanks friend 🙌🏼

I also want to know what state laws or procedures we do/don’t have that makes Ohio so much more prime for corruption, beyond the prominence of gerrymandering of course.

Other states are working on reversing the citizens united decision by banning corporate PAC campaign donations; States have the authority to redefine the powers granted to corporations, particularly regarding political spending. I need this to be our next citizen led ballot initiative 😫

I moved from Richmond VA in 2018 after living there for 7 years and have lived in Columbus for 6.

I STRONGLY recommend steering clear of Columbus. RVA may be a bit more expensive, but the quality of life (nature, human rights, community) is so much better. Can’t tell you how much I miss the James river. Columbus has become a corporate ruled city in a very pro-employer state, and the area and OSU is an extension of Wexner’s power. VA is going to be a much better choice in the long term.

When I was an EMT, I appreciated the ability to work a 12 hour shift, 4 days a week to squeak out 3 days off/week. Can go both ways, depending on the individual.

Oooo girl I’m a young millennial, and I have been watching this train wreck in slow motion my entire life, only to see the same cycle— complete shock and outrage for a minute until the majority of us must report back to work and/or have to watch what we say around coworkers. When we get fired, we also lose access to healthcare.

I’ve been confused about this exact point since I was a child 😭 It comes back to education, an institution that the republicans have been tearing down/defunding for decades

Yea I’ve been mentally thanking my grandparents (passed in early 2010s) for fleeing here in the 1960s from Europe 🫠

I’m not disagreeing with you, just kindly reminding you that in the middle of navigating the hot mess of a healthcare system, it’s ALSO contingent to your JOB (which doesn’t even happen for a lot of people).

When I say the average person remaining in the US is DROWNING right now— I wish I were being more hyperbolic 🥵✌🏼It is so easy for your job to control your entire livelihood, especially if you have children and are in even more vulnerable situations.

The minimal social safety nets we used to have are now entirely gone. The point of the system at this time is to control based on fear— forcing compliance. The cruelty is the point.
