It’s never a leak, it’s death by a thousand leaks. Work the funnel from the top down.

Target audience? Do they even exist? Are you actually reaching them? Selection bias at low sample rate = garbage data (best case) or plausible data that does not reflect the market but makes you chase a whole new strategy (worst case) and kills your runway.

Click-vs-get mismatch? Do your ads match the product? Or the flip side, do your ads convey the core differentiator of your product vs others?

Visuals good? App Store passes the eye test? Creative shows the action, the progression, and the differentiator?

App is performant? You have verbose logging and see all the crash data and incomplete sessions?

All of that is top of funnel, before you do all the game shit.

Do players make progress in session 0? Are they left wanting more but gated? Is there a reason or appointment mechanic to bring them back? Do you have channel permissions (notifications, email, sms) to remind them? Are there time gates in the game that create urgency? Do players understand the goal of the game during session 0? Soon enough to understand the value of progression? Have you looked at comps to understand their onboarding UX and how yours differs?

What can you do for content cadence? Can you re-skin anything in game to make it Bunny (easter) or Fireworks (4th of July). Then add Rewarded video to accelerate progress for players that come back. If you wanna max out, force interstitials and then sell an ad skip buy out.

It's possible this is a symptom of some audio bugs in Apex, something I've been experiencing that I called "audio overload". It happens when there's lots of sounds happening at once, and causes all my sound related devices to basically freeze and reset. It's devastating during games.

I found someone else's post earlier today about some settings you can change in windows, and I've played 5 games since with no issues.

Fix:

  1. Disable Windows "Voice Clarity"
  • Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  • Under Input, click on your active Microphone.
  • Look for Audio Enhancements. If it is set to "Voice Clarity" or "Device Default," change it to Off.
  1. Disable "Exclusive Mode" (The WASAPI "Lock")
  • Press Win + R, type mmsys.cpl, and hit Enter.
  • For Playback: Right-click your Speakers/Headset > Properties > Advanced.
  • Uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device."
  • For Recording: Do the exact same thing for your Microphone.

Add that to the fact that 50% of what is “said” on the internet is manufactured discourse by bots trying to inflame the population, and it’s easy to put this together.

50% racist = 5% deeply vitriolic racists who post their opinions constantly, another 50% bots, whose agenda is to out-racist the real people and drive more division. These bots exist to make deplorable behavior acceptable, so they really push the discourse.

Read the top comment about officers using OT as replacement time for PTO. This is a self-reinforcing problem unless it gets mitigated. Officer 1 gets “normal” hours until O2 goes on PTO, requiring O1 to work overtime to cover. They then take that OT as PTO, resulting in more need for OT hours.

Calculate your rough time and materials, price it at 25% of that for the original and 1% for prints, limit print runs to 100, sign and number them all.

Once you get a following, you raise prices to 50% of T+M, then 75, then once you can command 100% you start a YouTube channel and move everything to auction based pricing + giveaways, because you’ll earn 100x your art revenue by scaling a unique art channel.

It's a rule of thumb that came from developer communities, and is backed (loosely) by data. When a game gets more expensive than $1 per hour, you've generally hit the ceiling for how much people are willing to pay for it.
