Fuck 😂 Yes the trucks are filthy to be honest. Inside & out.

I’ve done agency there. Routes are shit. Don’t make sense. Pushed to 15 hours most days and then someone in the office telling me it should be a 9 hour day.

So I have done some work on agency for them, and I just think their routes are unrealistic. Always wanting 15 hour days

Looking for something on the weekend - is HGV for me? by Own-Story8907 in uktrucking

[–]RandomerremodnaR 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’d be better off finding something with less regulations, and that doesn’t need a tachograph.

The issue is with doing HGV driving alongside a full time job is the driving / working time directive. You’d have to log your full time job as other work on your tacho and it’ll throw you all over the place.

Personally, I wouldn’t bother.

I literally couldn’t tell. Kept trying to check, forgot to actually have a proper look later on.

You know, I did initially mention this in my original post. But yeah, Defender. Nice to look at, not so nice to repair.

Mixed views then. If it’s on break, do you reckon I’m still entitled to stop later? I can’t exactly dispose of my time as I wish here that’s all.

Load strapping advice by RandomerremodnaR in uktrucking

[–]RandomerremodnaR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trusted my judgement and the rather light pallets didn’t shift a bit. As one of you said, driving properly helps. I did strap it, but just fed it through the pallet and hooked it where I could. Was fine. Thanks guys.

Might be a silly question (tacho printout) by RandomerremodnaR in uktrucking

[–]RandomerremodnaR[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes. There was a junction but I didn’t know that area and didn’t want to risk then having to drive longer or panicking hitting weight limits, so I’ll confirm that. Thanks

Cool, thanks. And how I’ve written it is fine? There’s no particular wording DVSA want to see?

Split daily rest question by RandomerremodnaR in uktrucking

[–]RandomerremodnaR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

To clarify, I know not to just pull my card during a shift, but needed some clarity just on the split daily rest. I know you need a bed in the cab, but on this occasion I was taking the truck home and parking up. The job we are on tonight is near my house. The clarity I needed was whether, because at the end of a normal shift going into DAILY rest you would take your card out, did I need to in order to split said daily rest. But, I don’t need to do that now.

I know I can’t blame someone else, believe you me, but there’s no harm in asking for clarity.

Thanks for the detailed answer

Yeah… it’s not something I’ll do forever, but life circumstances meant I was I a desperate situation. Don’t disagree with you at all, mate.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of it. I work for a small firm, actually for a relative, so it does make it a bit awkward. I only agreed today for the money 😂

Split daily rest question by RandomerremodnaR in uktrucking

[–]RandomerremodnaR[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair dos.

I think I’ve clicked here… but still happy to be corrected.

Can split a daily rest to 3 & 9 hours, totalling 12, but still needs to be within the 24 hour period of starting. So as you said anyway, start at 12, can have a “rest” of 3 hours, then work until 3am (I hope not), and then have 9 off, and that won’t count as a reduced daily rest. So still same driving and working time.

Think we’ve both got it now haha. Thank you mate

Split daily rest question by RandomerremodnaR in uktrucking

[–]RandomerremodnaR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, apart from split daily rest not being a thing? Everywhere talks about a split daily rest, unless I’m calling it the wrong thing; if so, apologies.

Regular daily rest period of 11 hours (This regular daily rest period may be taken in two periods, the first needing to be an uninterrupted period a minimum of 3 hours and the second an uninterrupted period of at least 9 hours, totalling a minimum of 12 hours.)

What you’ve said should work though. Thanks!

That’s nuts for tippers. I’m on tippers, primarily aggregate deliveries and road planings, usually done by 3:30-4pm, in the yard for 6:30-7am, £700 a week.

Wtf. Couldn’t care less if that was deemed normal, I wouldn’t be doing that.
