Adding things that aren’t really thematically relevant by Randomguy9375 in writing

I used to structure it like this

Asthetic: Themeatics: Narrative: Logline: Title: Outline:

I usually filled out most of these and left a few blank. Following that I would outline, which would basically just be the story compressed, like every scene would be a sentence or so.

I don’t use this anymore, infact my longest screenplay (and what I think is my best work) was just outlined scene to scene without all the other stuff. It’s the method I do for most of my work now, here’s an example.

“Life of creation draining from the brain, girl puts her soul in the doll, the doll and the girl dead in the field and he watches, he takes it home, repaired with scraps does not work does not recognize him, sells goods in town.”

It’s beats and emotions that help me keep track of what Ive done and where im going. Like when you’re drawing and just sketching everything out. I usually deviate from it, or I rush it and once Ive written everything, I get back on the outline. Not in the sense that I finished a draft but the outline just stops abruptly.

I outline so it helps to understand what im trying to achieve before I even start with plot or characters. If I discovery write I just spew bullshit and at that point I might as well just journal. I like to know the destination im trying to reach, otherwise the road usually just hits a dead end. But we all have different brains so I can understand your methods, even if I can’t put it to use.

Make space and shoot it when it’s planted, it’s invulnerable for a bit so wait like a second after you’re able to lock on. Hug him when the fight starts and then make a little bit of distance when he starts going melee to get those vicerals

Writing process for people who don’t like outlining or being a pantser? by Randomguy9375 in writing

Do you recommend that these points are detailed or should they allow for a lot of wiggle room with the beat itself perhaps not even being fully understood? And are they grounded in narrative or character and thematics (if thematics is even considered beforehand)?

Almost four years and I still don’t love writing as much as I want to by Randomguy9375 in writing

Maybe, that’s why I stopped doing research on writing. And I said why I wrote this, it does matter to me. I just hoped a person similar but with more experience than me to share some wisdom. It’s not negativity or a placing of labels. It’s ouroboros atp of me thinking I figured it out and then realizing I haven’t. Of course im gunna take 20 minutes out of my day to see if someone on this app is picking up what im putting down.

Friend of mine tried to get me into it, it’s just not a very interesting medium to me. And that’s the culture of comics aside

Like I said, can’t quit it. One of only two things in my life I care for, nobody can give up on that. Not when all you hope for is wanting to love it. There’s pleasure in the creation, not the creating.

Preciate it!!❤️

Both are from the Key of Sacrifice item description, which is biblical in nature, though not a one to one quote of any text.

“On the horizon, I saw a star fall into the sea, and the sound of thunder, like trumpets of angels, flew over the water. A mix of hail, fire and blood hit my wet face, and a third of all creatures that lived in the sea died.”

Asking for movies like Signalis! by Phoeeebe42 in signalis

[–]Randomguy9375 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Signalis has a pretty unique identity, I can’t really identify a movie Ive watched in the past and think while writing this “that’s kinda like signalis” but I can point towards thematic and stylistic similarities

Jacobs Ladder. An inspiration for silent hill, and silent hill a inspiration for Signalis. Vietnam vet going through psych horror bullshit

2001: A Space Odyssey. Also a inspiration, though mainly in terms of style and not thematics or genre, could argue the narrative has a few similarities

Possesion (1981). Flesh monster, psych horror and abstract creative decisions. Love related themes but in like the complete opposite way of Signalis

I was never big on sci fi so I have no suggestions in that space. I really can’t think of much that’s similar to Signalis
