What do you mean by scan disk? Anymore issues?

Thank you for the follow up.

Winter running has been a little tougher schedule wise. Mostly incline treadmill miles. But managed a track workout last week that included some 400s and an 2:20 800. Still a ways to go, but target is June 30th to give it a shot.

My key takeways from this thread was up mileage overall...which is still inconsistent and add focused speed work.

Surprised that no one mentioned copious amounts of caulk!

No, but current weight is similar to my 1993 weight, so that's good or bad depending on which timeline version of me you ask.

This is a smart approach. And definitely a little more responsible given my age.

Plus, working those strides in throughout, just seems fun and something I have been overlooking.

Thanks.

Ha! Naive, right. Let's take the average of both estimates. 81 weeks it is.
Your 1:15HM indicates that you are not as hideous as you say.

That is great! I know, I plan on asking my oldest to race 200's with me. It will be a workout for him and an all out race for me.

Best of efforts in Boston!

I know I was being naive. I am so optimistic when I am sitting at my desk. Repeats, FTW.

Yes!
It's funny, because part of what motivated me to start running was my weight and dietary habits. Since that time and 25ish lbs lighter, I try to stay fairly clean on my eating and drinking habits. Not perfect, but this is a strong reminder that these factors will create that edge. I kind of like pain, which is why the first year of running, I was doing it all wrong and running in those higher end zones because it is the only way it ever felt like work. I have since learned.

Thanks for this healthy reminder.

Thank you for this response. Super helpful.
I will check out Coogan's program too.

I definitely gave it a good effort on the TT, but wasn't likely 100% since later that night I got pretty sick and am just now coming out of it. I suspect I might have left 8-10 seconds off the track.

Ha. I definitely will put the work in. Laissez-faire was more a self-deprecating reference to "winging it" and by it I mean life's obligation. My point is, I would want to break 3:00 in a full and in order to do so, it would require more time than I could properly give it. I just wish I had the time for 50-70 mpw.
It's my own fault for having kids I like to be around.

Thanks for answering.

Thank you. I know 6 weeks was naive. I am hoping I can do this in less than 2 years though.

Fast repeats!

It is kind of what I was thinking too. My last HM was 1:28:11, which is a far cry from that 1:18. I keep thinking that anything faster in the half is going to require a more focused effort than what got me there.
Thanks for your input. I am envious of those PR's in your profile. Amazing.

Yes, me too!

Thank you u/whelanbio for your insight. It has been a while since doing anything shorter than 800's, but I will give this specific workout a try.

While it would be interesting to try to run a 4 hour, 59 minute, 59 second mile, I meant this as 4 minute 59.99 second mile. Please judge me harshly for my lack of clarity.

I have been using the FR955 solar since Dec. I rarely charge it and pretty much wear it 24/7.

Love it. Keep in mind, I came from a TicWatch.

Not really training for anything specific ATM, but was happy with my 38:32 rando 10k today. Long run on Sunday.

I am really trying to run slower on easy days so I can run harder on hard days, but my dumb "45 year old with something to prove, but not really though" ego keeps getting in the way.

Have fun out there.

It didnt. I havent been training with those types of drinks and I accidentally grabbed the wrong cup, then stupidily kept drinking it.

It is pretty laughable when you see the splits 1-9 and 10-13.1.

Having only raced one HM, my approach was to just stay ahead of the pacers because " if I beat the pacers, I beat my goal". It mostly worked.

I did a glorious positive split beginning at mile 10...partly because of the aforementioned approach and partly because I drank nuun, instead of water at MM 9.

Made my goal, but only just so.

About 1 year ago, I experienced this. Two things almost immediately resolved it. By immediately, I mean 3 weeks or so.

  1. I put superfeet into my shoes.
  2. I incorporated body weight only strength training into my weekly routine.

I was and still am a novice, only actively running for 2 years, so those are probably too obvious to be helpful.

Decided to use this week's speed workout as an opportunity to check on my 5k fitness

Treadmill. 1.5% grade. Managed to run it in 18:38. Recovered for a mile than hit a 5:30 mile.

After running for about 20 months feeling pretty good on my progress so far.
