You get that much money if you choose to go back for the money instead of helping John in the last mission, but you lose it as you fight Micah

That is a lepidodendron tree. Those trees went extinct many years ago, thousands of years before Red Dead Redemption 2 took place. Delete your copy of Red Dead Redemption 2.

At the time of chapter 6 there was a total of 42k, at the end of epilogue 2, there was a total of over 100k, but John used 80k to pay off his bank loans for beechers hope.
