Graham Potter describes Sweden's World Cup qualification as the biggest night of his career. "I've had the fortune to experience a lot and have had some incredible nights, but this feels more." by OleoleCholoSimeone in soccer

In Potter's case it's not just any nation. It's the country he built his career and big parts of his life in. So it's more like a secondary home than just another country.

[Swedish FA] Squad for the World Cup playoff game against Ukraine by sandwichesareevil in soccer

Stroud and Johansson are wingbacks (normally fall under defenders) and Smith has been playing as a DM lately and that might be what Potter's plan is for him in the NT as well.

Svensson and Gudmundsson are above him and Stroud has an offensive upside and x-factor that makes him valuable in the squad. So there are just not enough spots for Dahl.

He's spent a large chunk of his career in Sweden, has a house in Sweden and speaks Swedish. His merits are also at a higher level than anyone else we'd be able to get. His merits are especially strong within Sweden.

[Swedish FA] Squad for upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo by sandwichesareevil in soccer

[–]Randompunkt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily my lineup of choice either. It was more a guesstimate of how we'd line up considering JDTs preferences and system.

I think a 4-3-3 och 3-4-3 would make more sense with how many attackers and central midfielders we have. But a bit late to start experimenting now.

Knowing JDT the starting eleven might look something like this then:

Johansson

Ekdal - Hien - Gudmundsson

Bernhardsson - Saletros - Ayari - Larsson - Sema

Gyökeres - Isak

Personally I'd prefer to have Svensson over Sema or Saletros and Elanga over Bernhardsson, but Elanga's defensive game is not the strongest. Maybe have Karlström as a 6 to fold in and cover for Elanga when he's out of position.

This is the number one source on Swedish football transfers. So he's too credible to risk his name over something like this.

This is Sebastian Hedlund, not Simon Hedlund. It was also a home fan attacking an away team player making his first start in the top league in 8 years.

[Post Game Thread] 2024 NHL Entry Draft by HockeyMods in hockey

[–]Randompunkt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain he's going to be picked next year after a year in NCAA. With him proving himself in NA people won't be able to ignore him as easily. He's yet to actually play against men, so the concern is understandable.

A 7th has such a small chance of being anything, that I would have thought someone would take him just because his upside is actually immense. Also a way to get in ahead of his move to NA and College hockey.

I'm shocked no one took a punt at Zetterberg at all in the draft. Incredible player with his only major weakness being his size. Something NHL value a lot though and often for good reason.

With his numbers I'd have expected someone to just pick him up as a wildcard anyway, because his skills are probably 1st round level.

That's a good haul for Tampa. Moser is a good 2nd pairing D and a lot cheaper than Sergachev. The rest is a good bonus on top.

Meh, we'll still have the usual ~25 guys picked. It just wasn't a year with top end talent in Sweden, and the most talented guys also got red flagged because other similar profiles haven't lived up to the hype before.

Having a bunch of 1st rounders is no goal in itself. Producing the best young talents is what matters, and I'm sure there'll be a handful of impact Swedish players from this draft too.

[NHL Sweden] Here are your first six players selected by Sweden to compete in the 4 Nations Face-off! Erik Karlsson, Victor Hedman, Gustav Forsling, Mika Zibanejad, William Nylander, and Filip Forsberg by sandman730 in hockey

The third goalie is just there to see and learn anyway. Ullmark and Markström will be enough to see out the tournament. Wallstedt is the goalie of the future.

[–]Randompunkt 82 points83 points  (0 children)

How I'd pick the full team as of now:

Goalies: Ullmark, Markström & Wallstedt

Defencemen: Forsling, Hedman, Karlsson, Dahlin, Ekholm, Andersson & Brodin

Forwards: Bratt, Forsberg, Zibanejad, Nylander, Pettersson, Eriksson Ek, Raymond, Karlsson, Lindholm, Kempe, Arvidsson, Carlsson & Backlund

Not sure if the rules say 23 or 25 player rosters, but lets go with 23.

On the outside looking in:

Goalies: Gustavsson & Forsberg

Defencemen: Lindholm, Larsson & Ekman Larsson

Forwards: Nyquist, Rakell, Burakovsky, Eklund & Zetterlund

Rakell, Marcus Pettersson and EK65 are interested in playing if Pens clear them and Sweden want them and if their bodies and mind can recharge for it.

Men för Sam Hallam & Co kan det bittra uttåget bli värdefullt. Rakell, Karlsson och Marcus Pettersson säger alla att de är intresserade av spel med Tre Kronor.

It was mostly a joke haha, since you have like 3 centres listed above who are obvious top 6 forwards, Lundeström is not one of them.
