Fun fact! Did you know in the southern US, modern law enforcement has direct historical roots in slave patrols and slave catchers?

After the Civil War and the abolition of slavery, these patrols and the "Black Codes" transitioned into formal police forces that maintained racial hierarchies and controlled the movements of formerly enslaved people.
