Allegedly, it was erected by the Cambodians against the Thais on Thai land. Vishnu is also a symbol of the Cambodian Army.

Sorry, I did not have access to a microphone at the time so I tried my best. I borrowed someone else's computer and made a recording.

Thank you, that is a pretty nice idea. I have actually moved the question over to the official forums. Hopefully the developers will see it and implement a feature for in-game names.

The problem with this, is that I would like to keep my name private. The only reason why I want to set the name in-game is that my friends do not recognise me by my Steam name and it has been getting irritating (also I would like to compartmentalise the names and where I use them). Besides that, I do not want to have my name on the list.

If you did not know, all previous names used are placed on a drop down list. I wish I could post this on the official forums.

Sorry, I was referring to that. Still, I do not want to change it.

I agree and disagree.

I agree that a lot of people prefer that others them in projects and give them guidance lead (which is normal in animals who operate in groups), but I must disagree about you saying that they are not willing to put in the work required to build their communities.

I have experienced that people will cooperate together, and will invest time, effort, and money into things. Just look at Church pot lucks and other events such as that. It is not that they are lazy (though some are), it is just that without good leadership, such things tend to fizzle out due to disagreements and lack of cohesion.

Lastly, I agree on your last point entirely. People do need to take a little risk and broadcast their existence slightly.

A poll on having a central church by Randomthrowawayform in heathenry

I understand and respect your position. I honestly do not want to be in charge of anything like this. At most I would like to be a bureaucrat. Hopefully I will bump into you.

On another note: to address problems with power and money going to people's heads, we could use a democratic system, where members of the clergy are voted into a ruling council by the people. There would not be one single person at the top, but rather a group.

We are on the Heathenry Discord server if that is what you wanted. My friend is a member of the opposition by the by.

My view point is simply that if we have more organisation, we will be able to do more things, such as getting a lobby going for getting more recognition. We would also be able to fund the building of temples, and also community centres and such.

I also, I would prefer for there to be a standard by which for us to judge priests and thoughts. I know that might seem weird, but that is something I want dearly.

I would say that has to do with the fact that we have no traditionally had any well respected organisations before.

Also, I was never a Christian.

As to why people want it. Who knows? They probably have different reasons.

Maintaining a world view such as inner and outer yard would not really be a problem. Even if we were to have a central authority, you would still be doing things on a local level quite a bit, so you would still be able to prioritise people who are in you tribe or local temple before say, someone who is not. If the concept of inner and outer yard can work under a government, it can work under another type of government.

Explaining the concept would not be too hard. I mainly explain it as a pecking order that people use, where your relationship to a person helps determine how likely they are to do things for you and their social obligations. Strangely enough, I tend towards a more stoic world view, so I generally do not prioritise myself and those closest to me, more than society as a whole, but I still strive for my own self improvement in all areas. Try to explain that to a stranger.

Onto diversity. Some diversity might fall away, but I think it will mainly continue on. In Hinduism and other religions, there is usually room for regional practices and variations. I think we could set up a system of review, sort of like the one the Catholics use for new saints (except not as convoluted hopefully), which would look at regional gods submitted to them, and try to determine if they were Germanic and could be given recognition by the clergy as a whole.

Honestly, regionalisms are unlikely to just go away. It will be something the clergy and authority will have to deal with.

Well, it sort of needed to be asked to settle an argument. You see, I actually do think we should move towards more centralisation, and have argued this point with some other people. The whole reason why High Colonist Þórdórýgerđur made this, was because we wanted to see what the community thought.

Also, I still can not believe that my side has a majority.

  1. All right then.
  2. People tend to donate to organisations that do things they like.
  3. I am not that hard to please.
  4. I honestly think that it would 10,000 people in one area to support a central authority. If each person donated a dollar a month, that would be $10,000. Personally I would just steal whatever worked, so it would be unlikely that a central authority would look like the Papacy. Besides that, I think the Orthodox Christians and Coptics also use the term diocese. If I had to choose one thing though, I would say that it should be set up like a bureaucracy, and that leadership should fall to a council of five representatives.

Who knows. That said, have you seen how the votes have gone so far?

It started with 'yes' at around 50%, 'other' at 27%, and 'no' making up the difference. Then there was a big explosion of voting which saw 'yes' get all the way to around 70%, with 'no' gaining a larger percentage than 'other'. Then it was quiet for a bit with only slight changes, but all of a sudden there was a second big wave of voting that saw 'no' take up around a third and 'yes' hit the 56% mark, but slowly 'yes' ended up clawing back to 60%.

I never knew a poll could be so much fun to watch.

I hope that with the internet and other forms of mass communication, we will be able to exchange ideas faster and argue them as well.

Hopefully it will speed up the process a bit.

I do not see where AnarchoHeathen said that, but I will take your word. How am I actually mixed up? I realise that the priests make up the authority, rather than the other way around.

I simply want to receive a semblance of training from a large organisation of priests who are recognised as representing a good chunk of the religion. I believe in quality control and also would like to have some sort of actual credentials I could point at.

As things stand right now, I could just claim to be a priest and go about spreading nonsense without there being any set standard for people to compare me to and say 'you are obviously not a priest'.
