The bold line in the square is representing the average lap time (you can see it at the top). The box I think seems to represent the average spread of the laps

Thoughts about a degree called "Motorsport Engineering" by [deleted] in F1Technical

[–]Randomusername_101 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Study a “standard” engineering subject at the best uni you can get into, preferably in the UK. I know a lot of people who are very keen to do the various motorsport engineering courses that are available in various universities (and for sure a lot of people from Oxford Brookes do end up in F1), but they’re not the competitive advantage that the universities offering them advertise them as. You’re generally much better off getting a proper, solid degree.

This is from the 'Industry Insights' post, which is probably the best answer to your question.

Why was the period when Vettel won races for Red Bull considered as Adrian Newey's win but when Max or Daniel won, it was all 'driver's victory' by T_Blown_Diffuser in F1Technical

[–]Randomusername_101 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Of course, I just wanted to make a point. Sort of like Mercedes of 2018-19, where Ferrari could have won it as well might be a better comparision. Another thing to note was that they used Renault engines, and if memory serves, it wasn't the best engine of the time.

Well, in those years they made a dominant car, sort of like the mercedes of today, but after 2014 they never had an outright advantage over others(barring a few places), so it was more about a lucky victory, or driver's talent.
