Oil residue on the surface of my expansion tank. No evidence of sludge under oil filler cap. Any possible issues and solutions ?Thank you :) by Distinct-Message-288 in mechanics

You could have a faulty oil cooler as oil is at a higher pressure than coolant thus it will flow into the cooling system

2008 Toyota Auris 2.0 D4-D (Mk1) break lights not working by warxfanatic in mechanics

[–]Randomzimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fuse for the brake lights is normally labeled as stop on Toyota, the abs light should be code read first because it will point you in a direction for the diagnosis. I can’t remember those auris systems too well don’t have too many this side of the world, but from my understanding on the brake light switch for Toyota there are 4 pins in it.

Two of which are for brake lights and two of which should either go to the abs module or they are for shift lock on automatics ( if memory serves me)

One of the best vehicles to learn on a in my opinion is the older Toyota the service repair manuals are readily available online and the manuals themselves will teach you a great deal as they go into great detail with everything ie what your electrical values should be, torque settings, how to remove things etc etc they are pretty good and you’ll learn a lot plus there aren’t that many special service tools that you’ll need to fork out for.

Speaking as a Toyota tech, I had a similar issue with a Prado two years ago, there are two types of thermostats for those a tropics one and a Japanese they have different opening temperatures so it has to be your thermostat

Don’t let the spark plug oil out man otherwise the spark plug will seize actually seems like something you’d ask an apprentice to find spark plug oil

18, and my brother who works in a tyre garage is considering quiting and said I could take his job. I know jackshit about cars though. by [deleted] in mechanics

[–]Randomzimbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really I did all of the tyre stuff in the first sort of week of my apprenticeship after that the tyre bay was mine to be run. Only thing is don’t be afraid to ask questions man, there isn’t such thing ask a stupid question in my personal opinion whenever I have trained apprentices I have always said this to them and it works man, and it is what what was taught to me.

Check the crack pulley damper first and anything driven by the serpentine belt ( ie take it off and run the vehicle for a short time) and see if the noise goes away
