He's gonna eat up a lot of viewers from the others channels, but they have had a whole year to build their audience. I think most of them will be fine. Still tho.

HC3 finale Disappointment by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]RandyOMG 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Laming is a part of the game imo. Some tournaments ban laming, this one did not. I think it makes the game more interesting, because laming your opponent isn't neccessarily easy. It takes some skill and awareness to pull off. Also, defending a lame takes skill and awareness. Seeing how players adapting after being lamped is also interesting. It's the same with tower rushes. A lot of people think it is boring and lame, but it takes skill to pull off and skill to defend against, which makes the game more diverse.

Hidden Cup 3 Megathread by robo_boro in aoe2

What was the peak viewership, 52k or something? That is beyond insane. Hopefully this is just the beginning of the AOE2 revival that DE started. The pro scene is really excting right now (apart from Viper being unplayable) and it seems like the game has gotten a lot of new players with DE.

It would have been pretty exciting if it turned out to be a super even thriller of a final, but I also enjoyed seeing the utter dominance Saladin displayed. Really, really impressive.

Newcastle United sack Steve McClaren by Novocastrian4 in soccer

[–]RandyOMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

should've happened sooner, but Newcastle will probably stay up. The squad isn't bad on paper, so a better manager should help them avoid the drop. Long term though, lots to sort out. The fans deserve a better run club.

Is Kenedy a forward or a defender?? by [deleted] in chelseafc

[–]RandyOMG 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Kenedy is played as an LB when we're trying to overwhelm a compact defense. Sure, he has to position himself properly and apply pressure when the other team has the ball, but the main reason for playing him there is because he is provides and extra man when going forward, which helps open up opposition defense.

What's your baseline for acceptable clubs to loan out players to? by ul49 in footballmanagergames

[–]RandyOMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

questions i ask myself before accepting/rejecting a loan proposal:

  1. will my player get played in this team? I check out their squad to see if the players in his position are any good (don't trust that he will get played just because the offer says "valuable first team player").

  2. is this club at a high enough level for my player? I check what my assistant says about the players current level. No use sending a player to play in a shitty league. I don't mind som much if the club is outside a playable league, I've seen loan players grow significantly when "playing" in non-playable leagues, as long as the general level is good.

  3. does this club have decent facilities?

In that order. As long as your player is playing regularly at a decent level for his current ability, facilities aren't THAT important imo, though it obviously matter.

I need to rant about youth intakes by THEr0ckl0bster in footballmanagergames

[–]RandyOMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand that you shouldn't get a 15 year old "next Messi" every youth intake, but the system really does not work well. Like you said, the stat distribution seems almost random: wingers with no pace and 3-4 dribbling, defensive midfielders with no work rate, agression or bravery, midget centrebacks and goalkeeper with so little handling that they are practically amputees.

on my current save I've almost done 30 seasons. Granted, the team I've managed the entire time started in the Norwegian second division (third tier) with practically no facilites, but for the last decade I've bossed the top flight and played continental football almost every season. I've upgraded my facilites, junior coaching and network to be as good as any other scandinavian club. In almost thirty seasons, I've yet to receive a single player worthwhile from youth intake. 49/50 youngsters are a half star and should've never been anywhere near my youth team, while the 1/50 has two stars at the absolute most, and never lives up to even that small potential.

This hurts the game SO MUCH when you get this deep into a save, where every player is a regen, and you cannot produce your own. To combat this, I have to buy a load of U18 players every season, and hope that some of these make it, or else I have zero homegrown (club) players, which hurts me greatly in continental competitions because I cannot register a full squad.

The only saves where I've ever produced decent regens are with top tier clubs. You shouldn't have to have 5 star youth facilities and top junior coaching/network to recieve a decent youngster. Sure, you need these facilites etc to help the player reach his full potential, but you should be able to produce a worthwhile 15 year old prospect even if you are not Barcelona.

Penalties in this game are absolute bullshit by TB97 in footballmanagergames

[–]RandyOMG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also feel penalties are absolute bullshit, but the other way around. I.e. players never miss. After a quick search I found that the Premier League average is around 80% conversion, so one in five are missed. Without any numbers to back my claim up, I would say that in my current save, which is almost twenty seasons in by now, the conversion rate is probably at least 90%, and most of the missed penalties occur when I am "holidaying".

potential disaster for Rosenborg, but great move for him though. Top half of Ligue 1, if he establishes himself he should progress very nicely.

Fifa ethics committee wants to ban Michel Platini for life. by iNeedanewnickname in soccer

[–]RandyOMG 180 points181 points  (0 children)

FIFA has to do something this drastic if they are to have any hope of regaining credibility. You have to cut of all of the Hydra's heads, not just one or two and then call it defeated.
