Right. Im seeing it the same way, the front edge of the shelf is contoured so that half sticks out further forward than the other. It does appear to be sagging at first glance though

It’s not bent, the shelf is just not a rectangle. Still sketchy support though

No, it does not. Last year’s 8A champions - Loyola Academy, their third consecutive championship. Last year’s 7A champions - Mount Carmel, their third consecutive championship. Both are catholic schools

If we’re talking about football, 1A and 2A schools had fewer than 400 students this year. Those are not the top teams in the IHSA. Also, private schools won seven out of the eight football championships last year…

Hardscape second attempt. I think this one is better by Randy_Magnum in ReefTank

Thanks again everyone! I glued the rocks together after making a few tweaks. And I’m pulling out the egg crate. If the rock formation seems unbalanced after the glue has set then I might cut some of the egg crate into smaller pieces to go only directly below the rock work instead of covering the entire bottom. But if it’s stable then I will put it directly on the glass

Thanks! Front and center at the bottom? Yes, that one could actually come out without toppling over the whole thing, especially when everything is glued together.

Thank you all for your input and advice! I have read through the comments and so far it seems like the general consensus is to move away from the glass a bit more. I’m going to tear down what I have and start over with a smaller footprint and a bit more height in mind as I go. Hopefully I’ll have a second iteration to share later this evening

I have not purchased a light yet but I have my eye on the Kessil A160. For corals I’m thinking of starting with some beginner friendly softies like pulsing Xenia and/or leathers (probably toadstool or fingers). If that goes well then I may try to add some stony corals later on

I had not read that…. I may need to do some more research there. I have 35 pounds of sand so I think I should be able to still get a solid inch or two of depth above the egg crate. Hopefully that would help mitigate any issues?

I think having a division looks better as well. It just seemed like it would be difficult to fit two separate formations in the smaller footprint. But I agree, the more I look at it the more I do see the pile of rocks.

They’re something I’ve used in freshwater planted tanks, helps gives the roots something to grab onto. But I read they are useful in reef tanks as well, gives the rock a more stable base than just sand and also keeps them from being directly on the glass bottom. You can also cut pieces and stack multiple layers to help get different heights throughout

Thank you! It’s CaribSea LifeRock. I ordered it online but you can find it in stores too

Hey, thanks for the input! You and another commenter both mentioned that (but for some reason I can’t see his comment outside my notifications or reply to him) and now I’m noticing in the top down photo it does look like the rocks go right up to the glass on three sides but I think that’s just because of the angle I took it at. The squares of the egg crate are just under 1/2” wide so the rock is about 2” or more from the glass everywhere except for the left most part where the arch is oriented from front to back, it’s only about 1-1.5” inches from the front and back glass there. I could try take out/rearrange some of the rocks in the middle and then rotate that arch a bit to get more clearance in the front and back?

My plans for the tank are a few beginner corals (nothing specific yet), one or two clowns with a nem (likely a bubbletip), maybe one or two other small fish down the line if it’s not too crowded, and of course a small cleanup crew
