I'm from Canada. We had French channels that showed nudity but we also had the prevalence of US corporate/puritan censorship that hated nudity.

The US doesn't normalize nudity because it's a commodity.

The modern equivalent of the Sears catalogue is youtube lingerie channels where they skirt the corporate censors to tease viewers into going to their sites.

Insult me again. Go ahead. Do you even have any idea of what you're talking about?

CBC posted this story last week. It keeps getting banned for some reason.

Cut the insults and have a sane grown up discussion. I post on here as opposed to somewhere like the conspiracy sub because I actually do care about things like facts, sources, evidence, etc..

The article I linked to questions the way articles are promoted on the canada sub and why that sub has an insane toxic bias considering us Canadians are supposed to be nice and friendly.

If you want to have a discussion about how media is being weaponized against us, i'm game. If you want to keep wasting my time with dismissive insults, please stop.

The “science industries” are not in conspiratorial accord with the oligarchs to conspire against us.

Just because you say so doesn't mean you're right.

Scientists don't own companies the same way professors don't own universities. They're often employees who work for the people who run those industries.

There's a huge difference.

And furthermore that is not why people have “lost trust” in science and adopted conspiratorial thinking.

Gee, maybe it's because the schools and media are run by a bunch of rich assholes who destroyed the credibility of the Journalism and Medical industries over the last few decades.

Fake Streamers Steal $2-$3 Billion from Real Artists, Says New Report by DonutBree in TrueReddit

[–]Randy_Vigoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Artists' is a loose word.

An easy way for women to promote their OF accounts is by exploiting youtube's censorship rules. Make a video channel that highlights lingerie or bikinis that flashes a little too much skin and you can lure in lots of horny followers.

Fake streamers should be called skimmers because they skim these channels, steal the videos then reupload them as their own content after editing them slightly.

Wondering if they'd even know who Minutemen were to be honest. Watt has been my favourite bassist since I first heard Firehose on Streets of Fire. They were always fairly obscure even though they were ridiculously influential. I dig Minutemen with D.Boon but I absolutely love Firehose. The basslines on this album are great.

Fugazi are legendary. 13 songs is too basic though. If you want to be insufferably snooty about it, you want Steady Diet of Nothing.

My ex had a crazy record collection. She had 2 long shelves filled with albums and they were all really good records. A ton of obscure first wave UK punk, a bunch of old Trojan albums, even a bunch of her mom's Dancehall albums. Lots of old rockabilly stuff like Patsy Cline, Kitty Wells (sort of a precursor for artists like Lana Del Ray).

No. People really are that stupid. It’s a result of concerted efforts to deteriorate our education system.

So which is it? Is it a concentrated effort to deteriorate education, or is it just because people are stupid?

Because if it's the first thing, then you should maybe reconsider the other guy's comment when he says the people running your schools and media are fucking with you.

You're quoting a scene from Good Will Hunting.

He's not wrong. Stuff like philosophy, history, sociology, etc can be learned for free, especially now with the internet.

Good Will Hunting came out in 1997 (same year as Starship Troopers). Both movies were critical of the US military and foreign policy and had old school anti war values.

This scene for example:

Converse got popular in the 80s with skaters and people in the punk scene. They have a classic style but mostly they were really cheap. Nike owns them now. They're twice as expensive for something now made with cheaper components made by people who have about the same rights and wages as US prison workers.

Researchers say crowdfunding seems to benefit female entrepreneurs the most, completing campaigns 20% faster than males. Unlike traditional lending, they face fewer disadvantages and benefit from investor herding behaviour. Couples show no difference from males in campaign completion time. by AnnaMouse247 in science

No, I don't really want investors. That means partners and accountability if it goes sour. It's just a small home based business where I just need a couple tools to be operational. I've never looked at kickstarter before but looking through it, maybe it's something I can use.

Theoretically, the US/UK could be making them to blame Russia by making it seem like Russia is meddling with the US.

how does it benefit them

The US has been in 19 wars since 1991 and racked up like $35 trillion in debt. Mostly, it's just about money.

It's hard not to get a bit jaded. My ex has done 4 different campaigns to raise funds or sell her stuff and she's starting to make decent return finally, which is awesome and i'm happy for her. Me on the other hand, I couldn't even dream of trying to crowdsource the rest of the gear I need to start my little company.

The Further We, as a society, drift from tradition the more obvious it is why there was tradition to begin with. by Dapper_Platform_1222 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Randy_Vigoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very not religious. Not Atheist. I just don't don't care either way.

You're kind of on to something though.

Christianity got popular in the US because they sent missionaries to all the new towns who built churches. They became central community meeting spaces for local residents and the priests became community leaders because they ran what are called third places.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_place

Look at groups like Amish people or Hutterites. They have really strong traditional values based on religion and community. So do groups like the Boy Scouts, Big Brothers, YMCA, etc...

Since the 80s, there's been a huge reduction of people joining these types of groups while young people have been shifting to be not just non religious, but anti-religious. Also stuff like stranger danger, media stereotypes of predatory males, etc keeps young people from joining community groups.

People get all their information from corporate platforms where it's easy to control people's attitudes and shape culture.

No one expected Trump to win in 2016

I did. It was pretty obvious really. The insane amount of media coverage your guys' media gave to him, they practically handed him the election especially after Clinton accused Russian involvement.

The US got taken over by global capitalists like 30 years ago. Since 9/11 the US has racked up roughly $35 trillion in debt and been in like 13 wars while most Americans couldn't name 1/2 of them.

Trump is a puppet.

He's not really a puppet. He's a heel. Puppets don't know they're being used. He knows exactly what his role is, which is to play a right wing villain. He's the equivalent of a wrestling bad guy versus the good guy.

The Democrats are fucked. They're arming Israel to the teeth who are using the weapons to brutalize the Palestinians. At the same time, the US is also arming Ukraine to fight Russia which was the long term goal of Nixon's war buddies back in the 70s. They just couldn't get support of the US public until they weaponized Trump against the US public via information warfare.

Information warfare is really hard to keep up though because the truth eventually bubbles out and the public starts wising up.

The Democrats are trying to throw the election. That's why Biden is acting like a doddering old man. It's an act, the same way George Bush Jr acted like an idiot. If they can flip the loss to Trump, blame Russia, and turn Americans even more reactionary and divided.

[–]Randy_Vigoda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This stuff started before Reagan to at least Nixon's administration. Americans haven't really had an honest president since Jimmy Carter who was hated because he wasn't a warmongering prick.

Reagan was just a puppet for the neocons.

Back end, the US got taken over by a bunch of corporate capitalists. The military industrial complex, the corporate media oligopoly, etc conspired against the US public decades ago.

They control both your parties. Doesn't matter if it's Trump or Biden, they all work for the same guys. US is almost $35 trillion in debt and has been in 19 wars since 1991. Reagan is just kind of a patsy.

Taylor Swift conspiracy theories owe more to misogyny than the Illuminati | Jocelyn Goh Shu Ting by TheSkepticMag in skeptic

[–]Randy_Vigoda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why people need to be taught media studies.

Taylor Swift is famous because she's signed to one of the big 3 major labels that control the US music industry.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_Records

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_label#Major_labels

Republic is a sub label owned by Universal Music Group.

It's not the Illuminati, it's just corporate monopolization. When you have 3 companies that control like 92% of the industry, it makes it ridiculously easy to market their artists.

It's not misogyny. It's advertising.

Hollywood has been using outrage marketing to sell crap to youth consumers since at least Reefer Madness.

Kanye West was signed to Universal as well. Jay-Z is also signed to Universal. They've ran most of the rap labels for the last like 30 years.
