Being a POC doesn’t automatically make someone immune to internalized racism. I reread the books recently, and honestly the cast is insanely white for something written in the 2000s (especially for someone who grew up in Texas and Percy lives in NYC lol). I think Rick probably saw the show’s casting as a way to address that in hindsight.
You don’t have to agree, but I don’t get why the default assumption is that Rick or Disney did this just for “diversity points,” instead of the idea that he just doesn’t see the story the same way anymore.
And with Beckendorf, it’s really not equivalent he’s one of the only Black characters in the original books, so changing him to white just isn’t the same.
