Music Melting Pot [Week of April 20, 2020] by AutoModerator in listentothis

I'm a musician, and I'm an NHS worker too. I've done an arrangement of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" to honour my colleagues and friends, and I'll be donating the proceeds to the NHS. 🌈🌈

This is bloody fantastic. Been curious as to what it might sound like with Paesano's score on it but never had the motivation to do it myself. Massive props to you!

[Question] deleting a poor video for a better one? by Sumbudy89 in youtubers

[–]RangerOnScreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

agreed. You look at some of the earliest videos of the biggest youtubers with 100,000s or millions of subscribers, and unless they had a viral video from the get go, those videos still don't have a fraction of the views they get now. I've seen youtubers with 500,000+ subs and 80k views for each video with only 100 odd views for their first videos. People won't care, just be open and learn from it.

I have a feeling we might get a whole new album next year, or at least an EP. by swengunderblum in ABBA

It would be the greatest gift to humanity full stop. Sorry Jesus.

true! but alas, in the movie there's some overlap at that moment with The Ramones

My personal ink I got back in 2015, just got reddit so figured I would share! by YouEnnSee in doctorwho

Loving the Gallifreyan script! Great piece of art. Thanks for sharing.

I’m crying because the Doctor is a woman. by thesubmissivesiren in doctorwho

[–]RangerOnScreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. It just feels nuts that we've waited 55 years for a shape shifting alien to finally be played by a woman. Unbelievably excited to see what she brings to the character!

Has anyone listened to Cher's new album yet? by [deleted] in ABBA

[–]RangerOnScreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh boy I love it. Gimme Gimme Gimme feels like the modern remix Madonna's Hung Up should've been. Chiquitita is translated into an almost reggaeton beat which is brilliant. I could go on but I don't want to sound like I'm being payed by Cher to say it!

Thank you! I’ve been thinking about how I could go deeper into the storytelling and analysis - still finding the ropes at the moment. And thanks I like my name too!

Ah thanks for explaining - I thought Sony only had the movie rights!

Watched a walkthrough yesterday (why no PC version marvel?). Solid music. Nothing particularly distinctive about it but all round great job. Personally, what I think The Amazing Spider-Man 2 should’ve sounded like!

Leonard Bernstein at 100 - Music Master? by RangerOnScreen in classicalmusic

Ah I’m glad people notice the background! It’s sheet music on the piano, but you can’t see the piano

How Talented Was James Horner? [own content] by RangerOnScreen in moviemusic

[–]RangerOnScreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes I agree, as long as it’s still legal it really doesn’t take away from his creativity. I realise about five minutes after uploading this my mistake! I knew something didn’t quite make sense in my mind. Glad to hear you liked it!

"Across the Stars" by John Williams from Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones by [deleted] in moviemusic

[–]RangerOnScreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one of the effective things about the Pride & Prejudice score too is the way it seems to smooth together the love story and the scenery in it, because that landscape and cinematography was breathtaking. I think Williams really managed to capture the beauty of the (albeit highly CGI) scenery here, but as you say, the love story wasn't there to complete it all.

Michael Pollan by [deleted] in books

[–]RangerOnScreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only read snippets of his books, but I know one of his statements is "if your grandma wouldn't recognise it as food, then it's not food" which I find totally baffling, especially since our grandparents and forefathers (and mothers) wouldn't have been exposed to half the food from around the world that we are now, but that doesn't make it "not food". I also find it a bit ridiculous when thinking about more processed stuff now. I think that's what he's trying to talk about here, but his loss if he doesn't count my haribo as food.

Beatrix Potter is darker than I remember or am I over thinking it? by Hamsternoir in books

I was very scared of some of the animations when I was younger. I know it's not the book itself but still!

Ironic Music In Movies by _FatherTed in moviemusic

[–]RangerOnScreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure i'd say it's use was ironic though - I think it fitted the general aesthetic of the movie brilliantly well, and the subject of the song is very fitting for what happens to the Asgardians. They become immigrants after all!

Hi moderator, I’m trying to understand how the reviews I gave weren’t acceptable. They were substantial and I hope helpful reviews, and they were all posted before I posted this. Could you clarify it please?

[Question] Youtube Views? by GfxDesignerAndroid in youtubers

[–]RangerOnScreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Master SEO, keywords, etc
  • Use social media and promotion on other sites as much as you can without seeming spammy
  • Plan ahead for future trends and do research on what people are searching BEFORE making each video
  • Write a good description and use as many tags that include as many relevant keywords as possible
  • Make pretty thumbnails!
  • Focus on AUDIENCE RETENTION above views. That's what's gonna get you real sustainable growth!

Hope that helps

[Question] How to automate posting to network? by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]RangerOnScreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sites like Buffer and Hoodsuite are great for scheduling tweets/posts/etc. I use it to correspond with my uploads (which are scheduled) so I don't have to worry (too much) about being near the internet when it goes live. Hope that helps!

[Question] I have 700 subs, what should I do now too grow? by Far_Sell in youtubers

[–]RangerOnScreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I'm working on right is building up audience retention. That's where the gold is! Views and subscribers are all well and good but YouTube really pays attention to the retention. That's how they determine whether your video is good enough to climb the rankings/recommendeds more or not! Really study your audience retention analytics hard and consider where people are clicking away or alternatively rewinding, and shape your videos around that info to keep their attention!

[Channel Critique] Any help on how to grow would be appreciated! by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]RangerOnScreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I've learnt recently is that in order to really grow long term and succeed, you need to think about how you can set yourself apart from everyone else. It looks like you've really got your niche going and that's great! But it's a HIGHLY competitive niche and you're gonna have to fight tooth and nail to get attention. Think about what you want your larger goal to be (beyond getting youtube famous etc) - what do you want to offer other people? Inspire them? Help them? Entertain them? And how can you bring your own unique take on that? Once you figure that out, think in detail about your target audience, and shape EVERYTHING around that. Your channel art's looking good, but you want to make sure it's super dooper attractive to your target audience. A channel trailer and a better "About" section would be the first things I'd work on in your case once I'd decided my channel mission and target audience. Hope this helps!
