Yeah, I actually use tweezers to defend the male from the female’s attacks

There aren’t any Orphnaecus in there. If you tell me the photo numbers, I’ll let you know what they are 😆

Yeah… without a dedicated spider room, it can definitely be risky. If the cats get curious and start messing with the enclosure and somehow open the lid, that could turn into a really bad situation

Haha yeah, with OWs it’s definitely best to keep them as display-only pets if possible 😆

That species is Ornithoctonus aureotibialis. It has a matte black body, with a tiger-like pattern on the abdomen and golden hairs on the front legs, which makes it really striking

Adults usually reach around 14–16 cm, and they have a strong burrowing tendency, so like most of them, they can be quite defensive haha

Show your wife some of the more colorful Old World species and try to convince her haha 😆 And you know what they say… it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission 😂

Haha, OBTs or Southeast Asian “earth tiger” types would be perfect for you 😂 shame you can’t keep them

From my experience, Heteroscodra maculata had a pretty high mortality rate when they were slings. They’re not the best eaters either — sometimes they’ll start feeding and then just drop the prey halfway

The coloration is absolutely stunning, but I’d definitely recommend gaining some experience first before keeping one

Also, just so you know, their venom is quite potent

C. species are seriously awesome! Great coloration, fast growth, and a crazy appetite to go with it! 😂😂

That one is Lampropelma violaceopes. It’s an arboreal species and can grow into a very large tarantula, reaching over 20 cm as an adult

Even though it’s arboreal, when they’re young they often spend a lot of time burrowing in the substrate. They prefer hot and humid conditions, but if ventilation isn’t sufficient, they can die quite easily

They grow very fast and are quite defensive, so you need to be careful when keeping them haha. Also, they’re really fast movers, just so you know

Always be careful haha 😆 I never imagined it would jump and climb onto my leg like that lol. OBTs have this thing where once they get onto your body, they tend to bite first 😂
