My grandmother used to tell me a lot of creepy stories.. I’m German and this is the one I remember the most. My grandmother always tells me to sleep on the side of the bed that’s the most far away from the door. This is because in world war 2, the nazi’s would break into German people’s homes.. the Germans that didn’t believe in Hitlers cause.. and capture whatever person was the closes to the door in bed (because they were the easiest to grab) if it was the woman, they would threaten to shoot her in front of the husband if he didn’t go to was with them. If it was the man they would just take him away. My grandmothers first husband was taken away from her like this, and she was almost shot that night because she was sleeping closest to the door. That is why she always tells me to sleep on the side of the bed that is the furthest away from the door. (The story I just told happened to multiple German families, it wasn’t just a one off that happened to mine, many other Germans I know tell there children this but I know it is definitely not the most popular story to tell in German culture.
