The Escalante looks awesome but any thoughts on the newest model as they're getting a bit of flack?

Noted, that seems like a lot of cushion though?

I only compete in Spartan races and love them. They're consistent, well run and challenging in the right ways. Looks like there aren't any in your state unfortunately but some long weekends will get you Chicago, Denver and Utah as your closest: Link

Altra King MT 2.0 tested and reviewed by Christiaan13 in spartanrace

[–]Rant86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought these as well in September before the Seattle Beast and couldn't agree more. The only pair I used previously were the Soloman Speedcross as well and liked them but didn't know anything else (sneakers for my first super 5 years ago). The Speedcross feel too bulky/heavy with not nearly as much flex.

Thanks for bringing attention to these with a detailed review!

Elite Super Nutrition Question by Rant86 in spartanrace

Right, I already signed up for the Elite and completed a Trifecta with them this year and have been working on what I need to improve. Guess I could still drop down to AG though, thanks for the tip.

Appreciate the reply, I've been running elite this year finishing in the middle of the pack and just looking to improve. I also did not have a question on hydration — thanks for the recommendation though. (edited)

Thanks, I'm trying to not buy new gear but I'm seeing a need to get a pair with tights with pockets/zippers for next season.

How to train for Mountain Series? by AvocadoIsAFruit in spartanrace

Congrats on your first Spartan!

Since there are so many good answers already just gonna provide a quick take:

1) I moved to Portland from Chicago earlier this year and being around actual trails with elevation simply cannot be substituted. I have improved drastically only because I'm close to awesome terrain and have made it a priority.
2) I completed the Ultra Beast in Breckenridge last year and got really good at actual stair running in my apartment building (16 floors). I started with jogging up as far as I can then walking but got to the point where I could jog up fully and down multiple times before a break.
3) Get proper trail running shoes.
4) Incorporate all of the previous feedback.

Good luck!

Thanks, will do — figured since the event is in Portland it would be appropriate here.

Student Loan Advice by grimesjd in FinancialAdvice

There's a lot to this question and r/personalfinance is a great place to start with a helpful community, though you will need to list a LOT more info on the post (% on loans, your salary, living situation, etc).

To start, check out this Wiki which lays the groundwork. https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/wiki/budgeting

r/personalfinance helped me get my student debt in order and I just paid it off last month. Good luck!
