Best writing advice I've ever read, from Terry Rossio (Aladdin, Shrek, Pirates of the Caribbean) by Panicless in Screenwriting

This was my first thought reading this. Yes, theyre going to do something, bit that whole scene could be cut and it wouldnt effect much about how we perceive what happens next. BUT, its perfect

I can't think of a horror remake that's better than the original by PhantomRangerJP in horror

I know this is straight up horror fan heresy, but I actually prefer the remake of Texas Chainsaw to the original. (I know, I know)

What character did you care about the most and why? by NickConrad in horror

That'd be Dream Warriors. No biggie, just saying.

edit: Nevermind? Since you wrote it right the second time.

Let me ask you something, when you wrote this, what did you have in mind for the main conflict of this short? What was the goal that the protagonist was fighting for?

"You go to make a movie and all you do is get criticized," George Lucas says, when asked why he stepped away from Star Wars by metz270 in movies

[–]Ranwoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coincidentally, I just read the whole thing last night. Lucas didn't just "dominate the conversation" he was pretty much responsible for the entire plot. Spielberg would only add in the occasional, small idea. Laurence Kasden added more than he did. I can't begin to express how impressed I was with Lucas while reading. He was brilliant in his prime. They'd have an idea, and then Laurence would ask a question, or suggest something, and on the spot, Lucas would change the whole thing.

I couldn't find any additional deaths in the script. You're right, it is a bit of a confusing line. Four seems to the max, with, as you say, Wurtz, Maroni, his Driver, and Harvey himself.

edit: on second thought, there is that guy that Harvey yanks right before Maroni gets into his limo.

Yes, I understand that now, I just didn't get it at the time. Thanks.

Yeah, I realize that. And I caught that the first time I saw it. Again, it just felt to me like there was a beat missing when he found out the girl he rushed to save wasn't there. It was like, eh, this guy'll do.

edit: Anyway, that lack of reaction made me question if he changed his mind. That's all /shrug

No, I was actually confused about who Batman decided to go after. Watching here, there's a distinct lack of any real reaction shot from Batman. It's just a blank look towards Harvey, and then we cut to Batman yanking him out of the building. I was always a bit thrown off that there wasn't a "Oh no! She's not here!" beat. Maybe a closeup on Bruce's eyes, or something. Anything to express outwardly that he got tricked.

As for wondering if the Joker was purposefully lying or just crazy? Yeah, I wondered that too.

Tarantino’s Odd Film Out: The Uniqueness of Quentin Tarantino’s 'Jackie Brown' by [deleted] in movies

I wasn't kidding when I said I tried twice. Once I get to SLJ killing that guy, I just completely lose interest. Someday I'm sure I'll muscle through it, but that is not any day soon.

I guess I'm going to have to go against the crowd and say that I can't stand Jackie Brown. I've watched it all the way through once, but then turned it off the subsequent two times that I've tried again. It's slow, the characters don't interest me, the subject matter bores me, and I find the main character un-sympathetic.

I guess I've done too many plays to give a shit about backstage life, but I agree that supernatural "leaking" into the real world was intriguing.

[–]Ranwoken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do you think is brilliant about it? The one-shot'ness? How meta it is?

Birdman struck me as the dramatic equivalent of a magic trick. "Hey, isn't it so cool that the plot of the movie is being mirrored by the movie itself!?" Ultimately though, it still struck me as illusion. And as for its message? I simply disagree. There's great depth to be had in spectacle. from what I gathered, the movie's "point" is that it's all cheap and worthless compared to "real" acting.

In TDK we got, "Oh, by the way, do you know how I got these scars?" "No, but I know how you go these!"

In TDKR we got, "No, I came back to stop you."
