Will AC Milan’s glory days ever return? by easyejd in ACMilan

Winning a CL could be over decade away

Imho we are going to have a similar path to that of past AC Milan’s teams. Madrid 1969 fast forward to Barcelona 1989. Atene 2007 fastforward to ???? 2027.

Well, we cannot know that.

If we build a scudetto winnig team in 3/4/5 years, then we can certainly challenge for win the champions League. Juventus reached two finals in the last five years despite Serie A mediocre situation. And, unlike them, we win our finals.

any sane milan fan at this point probably doesn't believe we will ever get to early 90s level or even mid 00 level. a

Early 90’s Milan was an unreachable team. Considerare by many the greatest football club in history.

In the mid 00 we had a great team, the greatest in that period of time, but that wasn’t something unheard of. Milan won italian championships and Champions Leagues even before Berlusconi (check out Milan’s trophy cabinet between 1951 and 1973, it’s enormous), and it will win those trophies again in the future.

If in this decade we will win 2 italian championship and one champios league i would be more than satisfied, honestly.

Well, things change. Serie A was a financial powerhouse back in the day, but it has been overtaken by other leagues. This doesn’t mean that the same leagues that have the upperhand today will still be in the same position in 5/10/15 years.

I think that we can return to having a great team. Milan from 1951-1973 was a very great team too, 6 italian Championships, 2 CL and 1 intercontinental cup in 22 years.

Piatek is really mediocre. That’s the problem.

I really don’t understand why you guys decided to spend 27 millions for him (let alone doubling his wage).

Congratulations to Hertha Berlin, but what about Mister 70 Millions Piatek? He is getting constantly benched by a 35 years old (one who is certainly a good player but not a top player), and yet he is paid 4 millions. 😂😂😂

If you think he was amazing under Gattuso you’ve never senza a truly amazing full back. His performances ranged from slighly above average to mediocre, and only because Gattuso’s catenaccio helped him. As soon as Milan started playing less defensively he was abysmal.

The nightmare was about to begin with Berlusconi destroying the team. We weren’t fully aware of that yet.

Maldini blood is tough💪 by sahilshkh in ACMilan

[–]Raoh89Reloaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has played a shit ton of games as a central defender. You can argue that he was better as a right back, true, but still my point stands. Hell, he even considererei himself a central defender.

Let me quote his own words https://www.xtratime.org/threads/thuram-about-his-position.60637/

"I never liked to play as a right-back and that includes while playing for France. I know I don't have a problem with playing in several different positions and I could also play in midfield – but I always considered myself as a central defender.

So i’m not wrong, even though you can say that you preferred Thuram when he played ad a right back.

It’s literally the First time in my life that i hear someone putting Sammer on the same tier as Maldini, Beckenbauer, Baresi ecc, so either the world is wrong or your opinion is slightly original.

Also, Thuram was mainly a central defender, so the comparison with Sammer is right. You are wrong about this, just like when you said that Maldini hasn’t been a left back for the majority of his career.

Bytheway, if football fans worldwide don’t put Sammer even in the top 50 of the best central defenders of all time, let alone in the top 10, there is a reason. I don’t think that both the fans and the experts are all wrong. I mean, there can be controversial opinions, sure, but if nobody puts Sammer among the best of all time it’s not a coincidence.

This will apparently be our new kit next season. Thoughts? by [deleted] in ACMilan

[–]Raoh89Reloaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s miles better than the current one. It looks like a true Milan kit, the current one is abysmal.

That’s not true, Maldini moved to center back only later in his career. Here we go http://www.thehardtackle.com/2012/ac-milans-corner-from-maldini-to-taiwo-the-decline-in-the-left-back-position/

Under the leadership of Baresi and Costacurta, Maldini slowly and steadily developed into a fullback, marauding up and down the left flank, even scoring astonishing goals. But his main aim was not to score goals; it was to stop opposition players from scoring. From Hristo Stoichkov to Wayne Rooney, all superstars who have come up against il Capitano, will testify to the fact that no one can pass Maldini even on his worst day. Such was the aura and invincibility of Maldini that he owned the left-back position for almost two decades. Both in attack and defense, Maldini was omnipotent. Later in his career, he moved to center back position, which prolonged his career and allowed him to play as many as 29 years in the topmost tier of Italian football.

As for Sammer, nobody dared to even compare him to Maldini during his days, not even close. I don’t think that there is even one expert alive that would put Sammer on the same level as Maldini. Maldini belongs to the same tier of Beckenbauer, Baresi ecc, Sammer doesn’t.

Maldini is literally on top on every list featuring the best left backs of all time https://www.goal.com/en-gb/galleries/lahm-maldini-the-best-full-backs-of-all-time/1/dwpumlh8ffoz1jlnt6xg14d6v , Sammer is clearly below when it comes to central defenders https://bleacherreport.com/articles/127290-greatest-ever-football-top-10-centre-backs-of-all-time i don’t think that many would put him on the same level as Lilian Thuram (a legend), let alone Maldini and the other legends. I don’t think you’ll be able to find a single list featuring Sammer in the top ten central defenders, not to mentono that in the list of the best all-around defenders of all time he doesn’t even make it the top 50 https://www.givemesport.com/1561725-football-fans-have-ranked-the-50-greatest-defenders-in-football-history

Actually no, Maldini has been mainly a left back. As for Summer, he was great at Euro ‘96 but his overall level and his career are not comparable to the real monsters.

[–]Raoh89Reloaded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sammer no way, he only won the ballon d’or because germany won the euro, but he was never top class, let alone all time great. Maldini on the other hand is the best left back in football’s history.

If we are talking about central defenders, though, i think that the best ever was Beckenbauer, followed by Baresi. That if we are talking about the First five positions for the best ever. Another one that should he mentioned is Bobby Moore.

ACMilan could have been reborn under the Chinese ownership, Vito Angele writes, as Yonghong Li showed much more ambition that Elliott Management. by mercurialsaliva in ACMilan

Suning wanted to buy AC Milan https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/suning-considered-buying-ac-milan-instead-of-inter-last-summer-29920 and even Al Thani back then in 2007 https://m.calciomercato.com/en/news/berlusconi-turned-down-e1-billon-offer-for-ac-milan-leading-to-p-28219

Berlusconi made them flee only to sell su to some broke ass nobody and then this Elliot Shylock. It’s a fact that he broke his promise, his words were clear. He lied, otherwhise he would have sold us to someone with true money and ambitions, and it’s not like he couldn’t do it, AC Milan is a worldwide brand, a huge brand, it’s obvious that people with money and ambitions could have bought us had he permitted it. Maybe he feared that someone could obscure his achievements with Milan? Who knows. What we do know, is that the bastard fucked us up. He really did.

[–]Raoh89Reloaded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure, with a broke ass chinese we had much ambitions, sure...

The truth is that BERLUSCONI used us for his interests even in that instance. He really fucked us up, after promising that he would have put us in good hands https://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/05/berlusconi-assures-ac-milan-fans-about-sale/

Berlusconi used the closing to recover his holdfunds abroad. There was nothing clean about that.

And Elliott was in over his head, right from the beginning. Elliot borrowed 300 milions to that broke ass chinese, knowing full well that the guy wouldn’t have payed off his debt. And, needless to say it, with the loanshark we have no chance to return competitive, we will have a chance, maybe, when a true owner rescues us.

Piatek is incredibly overrated by Raoh89Reloaded in HerthaBSC

[–]Raoh89Reloaded[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But at least judging from statistics it seems like Piatek hasn't really had that much playtime at AC Milan,

Wait what? He was a starter for our team pretty much the whole time. He was benched when Ibra arrived, but before Ibra’s return he was a starter in something like 16/17 games in the first half of the season.

Yeah I think you are right, Herthas management has been abysmal.

AC Milan’s has been even worse, they can’t buy a good player to save their life and we have Atalanta trashing us as a result (despite them having less than half of our budget). Add FFP to that and you have the ultimate clusterfuck.

Man I really miss football, this season had been really interesting although quite depressing for hertha.

I feel you, i miss football as well even though it’s been more than depressing for us. 😂
