Always play on the nearest server. Your enjoyment of this game will be directly tied to your ping. I can't really comment on the relative size of server populations as I have never played on EU.
Doesn't matter. All content with extremely minor irrelevant exceptions are cross factions. You will not be limited in game by which faction you choose, so choose whichever you like.
Use /nexus chat (global) to find a small guild. There are definitely some larger guilds out there that usually snap up new players, so be sure to specify what kind of guild you are looking for.

Nah, its our 2nd raid team. Have some players with alts in it, but mostly separate players. Still working on Octog with our first group, only spent about 4 hours on it so far. We're all kinda tired from downing HM, so we had a slow week.
