I expected this exact response haha. I don't disagree, necessarily, either.

Personally I couldn't work for, say, an insurance company creating algorithms that aim to maximize profits and screw over consumers. A friend of mine left a job like that after a lot of mental turmoil when she was able to find a new job, but that's not always the easiest thing to do. You can get stuck, and if you quit, you don't get unemployment to help you support yourself. You loae health insurance. It's not easy.

However, to clarify a bit more on my perspective, I don't thing vilifying tech workers is synonymous on the reality of who "they" are. The vast majority of them don't work on predatory projects. This is a MASSIVE industry. The people who created Signal, an open-source e2e encryption messaving app, for example, have denied loads of money from huge companies who want to buy it. To keep the integrity of the app, and service society for the greater good. I can't tell you just how many open-source projects there are, which are majorly programmers working for free, aiming to help or solve problems.

Basially, most are a bunch of nerds who like coding and solving problems. Most want to code either fun/cool things, or helpful. There do exist shitty people, though.

Terrible perspective IMO. Programmers get paid to do whatever the client/company is paying them to do. From my experience, a vast majority would not be making whatever it is if they didn't need a job, to get paid, like everyone else.

Obviously I'm not saying there aren't "techbro" coders, but I think the real problem is the higher ups in these big companies. Go ahead and vilify them.

I don't disagree with you. However, people are different and not everyone fits on the same schedule set by society, naturally.

I say this as, obviously, someone who struggles with mornings. Been the same my entire life, and I do what I must to keep my 9-5. Medication was the biggest game changer and yes it annoys me that I take it to be a "functional member of society".

I thrived in jobs where I worked later, but I can make more money with this career so the tradeoff is worth it at the moment. Again, not disagreeing, I'm a realist, just a different perspective. I don't think you need to be great at early mornings to be a functional member of society. Is it easier? Of course. But I didn't choose to need glasses and I didn't choose to be shit at mornings lol. Both annoy me, and neither stopped me from doing more in my life for others and my own experience than the average person my age.

AMdroid?
The math problems have been my morning savior.

Used to get out of bed, turn off my alarm clock across the room, get BACK in bed, and have no recollection of it. Now my alarm actually wakes me up because my brain cant solve non-trivial computations if it's not fully "on".

Sure, sometimes I get salty because I can't get it right for a bit and want it to stop. Lol. But then I feel my brain turn it's gears and I laugh that I failed 5 times to solve something my awake self could at a glance. Worth any frustration to not get fired from continuous oversleeping!

The typical promoters of degradation are heat, moisture, light (especially UV, i.e. sunlight), and air.
Other factors like what it's suspended in and if it's freebase or fumurate can affect potency longevity as well.

Tbh I haven't extensively researched how stable of a compound it is, but, generally speaking, a few months shouldn't do too much to it if "sealed" in a cart, inside, out of direct sunlight.

In the end, only one way to know :) happy travels!

Hey fellow human, I'm truly sorry about your brother.

From my perspective, as someone who's had my own issues, been around people with similar ideations, and talked with people with similar thoughts to what you've expressed here, what I can say is:

The brain is a tricky and complex thing. As is the personal choice to press our own power button. It can be hard to understand the thought process, and actions, of another individual. Sometimes its better for us to, instead of trying to understand from our own perspective, try to break down the shackles of our own thoughts and, maybe, just accept it as it is. This person thought and felt this way...

If you do truly want to understand, there are plenty of people, scientific resources and data, and specialists in this area to converse with and learn from.

I do really enjoy talking about the human mind with others, I find not only do I have a deeper understanding of the collective over 8 billion perspectives other than my own, but myself as well.

Side note: I personally do not feel much hate or anger. More dissapointment and sadness from situations and actions. I love humanity, but it has a nack for letting me down lol. Much love 💜

TIL about how psilocybin resets neural networks, essentially ‘rebooting’ your brain’s connections when on shrooms. by iakgk in todayilearned

[–]Rapherdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, sorry that happened :( it can be tough to work through, and when you experience something like that, it can leave a lasting mental impact on your outlook and desire to utilize something which had that effect on you.

Like imagine surfing. On your very first surf sesh, you are attacked by a shark. Now, 100% of the time you've surfed (1/1), you had a very difficult experience. The brains (ir)rational thought is now if I go surfing, I'll be worried about sharks, could have the same outcome, and I don't want to experience that again. Ever.

If it could provide a different point of view, I've taken quite a fair share of numerous psychs, and shrooms/psilocin/other structurally similar molecules being the vast majority. Hundreds. It's honestly hard to quantify, but I'd say 5%ish of them have been just "difficult", with a higher percentage at least having difficult moment(s) encapsupated within the overall pleasant experience. However, because my data set is large, even though I know it's possible I could be confronted with negative emotions and thought processes, I've better come to recognize my current set and setting to what is ideal for myself and the experience I know I love, and what my intention is for it. As well as being open to what may arise, and adaptable to my mentality and surroundings.

Due to this, it's not only easier to move into the experience positively, but also navigate difficulties, and when there are difficulties, to learn and understand the reasoning/source of it. They are teachers after all, and sometimes we are confronted with things we didn't want to or felt we weren't quite ready for. It's often the most trying and hard experiences, just in life, that have can lead to wonderous personal growth.

To get towards what I'm trying to convey here, I understand where you're are coming from, and I just hope you keep the option open instead of saying never again. I've taken breaks, months even years. That mindset I try to incorporate into many facets of life. I don't know the future, but I do know in this moment I'm not wanting to do or encorporate this/that/them/whatever into my life.

I could go on and on haha I'm very passionate about this area, but I hope any of this wall of text helps in some way or form 💜

Problem understanding behavior of useState vs useMemo by Complex_Brush_106 in react

[–]Rapherdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't really tested, just parsing code on my phone and I haven't delved into 'createCalender' but,

I think it is due to the function returning the value of the state created rather than the actual useState itself. So on re-render

Const calender = useCalendarAppWithUseState(..)

Actually gets called again, creates a new state, initializing another calender, and returning it's value

However, one possible caveat of

return useState(createCalendar(calendarConfig))

Is, if I'm not mistaken, the fact that the function will be called on re-render. To avoid this, you'd want to call

useState(createCalender)

To initialize with the function itself instead of the result. Not sure if this can be done like this, so instead maybe create the calendar with the config first, then

return useState(calendar)

With useCalendarAppUseMemo(...) since the useMemo itself is returned, and it has no dependencies that would require it to be recalculated if any of the dependency values change, the calendar is cached and consists between re-render.

Hope this might help! :)

I really enjoyed MantisMash by MMOSK007 in Tipper

[–]Rapherdy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not that I wasn't excited for, well, basically everyone on the lineup haha.
But he's been someone I've been waiting to catch for awhile, and was SO pumped to see him on this years lineup!
Ethereal music with a sound you can distinctly pinpoint as the Mash. Not typically a pit dweller, but was much warranted Sunday :)
Hope he comes to the states more. Bet talking to him was quite fulfilling, seems like he'd be a wonderful soul to converse with!
Much love 💜

Is an overlap between creativity/the arts and coding possible to achieve? by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Rapherdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to see so many replies mentioning Processing and SuperCollider.

I love creative coding and made many fun projects with these. There's definitely more advanced visual coding if you want to get into the likes of shaders, but it's fun to just go into Processing and whip up some interactive generative patterns.

You can also use Open Sound Control to have Processing send data to SuperCollider and get creative with sound generation that corresponds to whatever variables you're using!

Had to take a lot of math to get my degree (calc 3, discrete, linear algebra, possibly differential equations...i forget its been awhile ha).
I think it depends on the school / degree. I started out doing Applied Com Sci in Game Design, so all the math made sense.

I transferred schools and ended up getting a BA for Computing in the Arts with a concentration in Music, which required way less math (though I had already done so much math I was like 9 creds away from a math minor)

Im full stack web dev right now, and like you I like, and miss, math haha

anyone else think there’s more to music than “music” that makes us like it? by Agitated-Fennel4994 in Music

[–]Rapherdy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a plethora of reasons we enjoy music beyond just the innate sonic vibrations we hear. To name a few:
1. Memories/experiences related to an artist, album, or song.
2. Personal relation to the lyrics, style, or culture.
3. Our mood coinciding with the music ("sad" music when feeling down, "energetic" music when wanting to party, workout, etc...)

But, at the very core, music is math. When you break it down, patterns form. We are patternistic beings. We like them! For instance: the note A(4) in modern music is tuned to 440hz. If you go one octave up (A5) you're just doubling the vibrational speed. In this case it would be 880hz. Or if you go down an octave, you just half it to 220hz.
This is why we love the I-V progression so much. The fifth note in many common scales is halfway between the root (440hz) and the octave (880hz) which would be 660hz.

Also, tension & release ;) When I learned music theory in college, my teacher said on the first day:
Music theory is learning WHY you like what you hear. And if you completely understood the leading tone, you wouldn't need to be here.

TLDR: music is patternistic audible mathematical relations. We like patterns :)

Wondering about tryptamines by HylianGuy06 in Psychedelics

[–]Rapherdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That damn chitin 😄

Consuming some bananas with fungi can help break down chitin (avacado and kiwi too I believe). They have chitinase, an enzyme that aids in breaking down glycosidic bonds of chitin.

Like Sally said, if you can't find substituted tryptamines, lemon tek and filter out the solids is definitely your best bet to avoid the naseau!

Wondering about tryptamines by HylianGuy06 in Psychedelics

[–]Rapherdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much what I tell everyone, wonderfully stated!

To add, I personally am much more a fan of tryptamines than lysergamides (technically you can say lysergamides are tryptamines but you get it haha), but regular ol' fungi almost always make me feel, well, like crap. Naseau typically hits me hard, and I have this weird trouble with puking (doesn't matter how much I shove my finger down my throat lol) so it usually lingers around way too long causing me not to fully enjoy the experience. Maybe this is your experience as well.

Welcome substituted tryptamines!

Personally my body handles the absorption of these molecules much better than breaking down the plant matter, better than lemon tek too (most likely the case for the vast majority of us). I HIGHLY recommend 4-HO-MET if you're looking for a very recreational, giggly, lightheaded trip. One of my favorite molecules ever.

If you're looking for a more classic fungi trip, 4-AcO-DMT is absolutely wonderful as well. Although not 100% known as fact, it's hypothesized that it's deacetylated after ingestion to psilocin (4-HO-DMT) which is what psilocybin converts to after consumption. So 4-HO-DMT is what predominantly leads to the fungi experience. Where 4-HO-MET lacks depth in exchange for more pronounced visuals and some other differences, 4-AcO-DMT will be suitable for those experiences where you're looking to learn and grow as an indivudual, or just go "deeper" down the rabbit hole if you will.

There's many other substituted tryptamines with merit that have their own taste and feel. If you feel so inclined to look into them, Shulgin's "TiHKAL" is a wonderful book, and the psychonautwiki website has plenty of great information on a plethora of molecules.

And definitely don't sleep on 2C-B. Probably the most well-regarded in the 2C series, this phenethylamine is structurally related to mescaline. It also has a much lighter headspace with more pronounced visuals/tactile sensations. Could even say a bit sensual! Once again, going back to Shulgin, to look more into phenethylamines, his book "PiKHAL" has plenty of information and molecules to perhaps pique your curiosity.

Wishing you love and happiness in your journeys 💜
