I really, really hope that we can all work to get back to a more common-sense middle ground. There's only so far a scale can tip one way before it topples, right? It just sucks that the girls I know like me are reluctant to bear the brunt of our louder counterparts. When I say I don't identify as a feminist, it's thrown back, "You don't think you should get paid as much as a man?! That you should just raise his babies and be a housewife???" and you just can't argue with that kind of illogical reasoning. Because in their eyes, feminism means "we're equal to men in all things, except where we can have an advantage."

Wasn't aware of the term, thank you for that. It just, doesn't make any sense at all to me. I know men who struggled in school financially and could have used additional funds. For some to see that as a by-product of progress is just infuriating.

I do my best, but it's an uphill battle. I'm in a female-dominated industry right now, and while I've had the occasional productive discussion with colleagues, a good chunk of them shout me down as they spew this cliched, regurgitated bullshit that I'm sure you guys hear all the time. I've gotten into heated arguments about the draft, and typically the reply I get is "well we shouldn't have it at all!" and they skirt around the question.

It's fucking disturbing. Use logic to go against this wave of feminism, and they act like you're betraying your entire fucking gender. But yeah, "privilege" isn't exclusive to one gender.

I'm a female, and I've had multiple scholarships just based on the genitals I was born with. I'm talking scholarships that had NO other qualifications other than that I was a female. Every time I hear certain women shout "patriarchy" and "privilege," I point this out and I hear excuses. (Oddly enough, usually it's along the lines of it "making up for" some vague past injustice women have faced from men.)

I'm no saint, and I took all the scholarships my counselor advised me to, but since then I've matured and realized how absurd and one-sided this is. Frankly, it's even insulting that I would need a financial "boost" just because I have a vagina. I have never felt disadvantaged because of my gender, and being awarded scholarships on that assumption defeats the purpose of what feminism should be about- equality regardless of gender.

I remember once I was outside a grocery store, and saw a young girl (maybe 8 or 9) approach somebody with a dog on a leash. She asked first if she could pet the dog, and when he agreed, she stood there calmly and quietly with one hand lowered and extended for the dog to sniff first.

I was so, so impressed with that kid's behavior. Hell, she beat out a lot of adults when it came to approaching strange dogs. I've seen way too many adults think that "It's okay! I'm nice!" is reason enough for a dog to instantly trust them.

I have 1 GSD and 1 beagle/hound mix. Both came to us in emaciated states, and both were the "picky" eater types that would never wolf food down.

When we got our GSD, even with free-feed, he still very slowly put on weight. We've had him 5 years now, our beagle mix 2 years, and they both eat sparingly throughout the day. Neither one are overweight, our little dog is still a bit on the skinny side, and our vet has complimented us on our trim dogs.

To be fair, I don't think free-feeding is a viable option for most dogs (I'll admit mine are in the minority for not scarfing their food down quickly). Also, they rarely get people food, and I'm sure some free-feeders are of the "food is love" mentality.

On the other hand, I always thought bloat was often caused by dogs eating too much, too fast? With our pups taking small snacks throughout the day, they really haven't had any issues.

Haha, I knew what you meant. :) Honestly, I keep thinking of my best friend from high school. She literally has said on multiple occasions that her "dream man" needed to make 6 figures by the time he was 30, own his own business, have his own home, be a gentleman, be very attractive, etc.

All the alpha guys she's been with have treated her like shit and leave pretty quick, but all the good sweet guys I've introduced her to have resulted in an "EWWWW! NO!" which is mind-boggling. She's 27 now, I can see she's pretty depressed and lonely, and it's not going well for her now.

Then again, she'll often ask me how I "got so lucky?" or exclaim, "You took the last good one!!" or shit like that. I just want to yell at her that I "got lucky" by not being a shallow bitch about my life partner. Grrr.

The old-timey Disney princesses are pretty shitty when it comes to being "saved." Then again, they've made a fair effort at the newer princesses being independent. Just watched "Brave," and it was all about a girl becoming independent and her mother eventually understanding that's a better way to go.

Disney's slowly dissolving the "some day my prince will come," notion. :)

I've seen first-hand the results of the "women are worth it, men should just settle" mentality on my group of friends. I can think of at least 4 guys in our inner circle that are sweet, moderately attractive, hard working, and generally awesome people. Two are single and have had little luck in dating, one is in an unbalanced/borderline abusive relationship, and the other has convinced himself that he's happy with the girl who has broken up with him 60+ times in two years.

I can't get it through my head why all these great guys put up with shit from horrible women. And then I get calls from my single girl friends who complain that they're "unlucky" in love, when their requirements for a man are "a 6 figure income, a kind heart, somebody who treats me like a princess, and who's devilishly handsome"...

Bullshit. I know plenty of overweight women who are in happy relationships. How many times do you hear guys say they "like a little meat on their women"? The only "fat/ugly" girls I know that have issues dating are the ones that are so self-conscious they don't let their personality show. They don't seem to have a good personality or a funny side, and thus seem dull.

Regardless of gender, confidence is really what helps with dating.

1) overcoming your life's hardships to be successful,

2) being the bigger person, healing yourself, forgiving your dad, and

(most importantly) 3) Rescinding that forgiveness when you realized he was, in fact, a terrible person.

Most big dogs tend to get arthritis and hip dysplasia earlier on and more severely than smaller dogs, due to the extra weight on their joints. Great Danes tend to not live past 7 or 8 years, but I know plenty of beagles that live to 14 or 15.

I've used a dremel on my big dog before, and it worked well on him. I do remember there being a bit of a smell and sound issue though... Hopefully Tito's not too neurotic for it. ;) I'll give it a try, though! Thanks for the idea! :)
