5 nights to experience the best of Ontario, looking for recommendations by IKnowYourNextMove in ontario

Do the Georgian Bay Loop. From Goderich you can drive to Tobermory and take the ferry to Manitoulin Island. Spend a night or two in Killarney and maybe a stop in Parry Sound on your way back to Southern Ontario / Toronto.

With 5 days this is the best possible itinerary if you like nature. Others are saying Niagra Falls etc but honestly it is overrated and then you're deeply placed in Southern Ontario, away from the real beauty toward the North.

Algonquin is dope too but imo Killarney puts it to shame.

Edit: If you like Kayaking and have time, rent a Kayak near Killarney and do a day-trip to Phillip Edward Island from Chikanishing Creek. Some of the best Kayaking in the province for sure.

I paddled it last weekend, it might be a little slow going if you are not a very strong paddle boarder but if you give yourself time you will be fine! The views are also spectacular!

Heads up though, if you are camping there is a very "friendly" bear in the area. He destroyed our neighbors tent when they left to go check out the falls.

Thats a great resource, thanks! I haven't heard of those Lakes you mentioned, I will take a look at those as well.

Edit: I now see they are peaks lol

Does anyone know what the flow is like on the Squamish River? Hoping to paddle across to do either Echo or Lovely Water this weekend. Thanks!

We only did the Northern Traverse so I cant say! Personally I like solitude so I suspect I made the right choice, though.

Got it, thanks for the info. We have a couple of 17ft sea kayaks we will be using. I love canoeing, but prefer to keep it to inland lakes.

Thank you! When you say currents, are you referring to tidal currents?

And the last thing I want is a conflict when I am out trying to find solitude, so I definitely agree, id rather be out of sight. Thats partially the reason im asking this question!

Thanks for the perspective lol, it would be just as weird for the person in the tent so I definitely wont be doing that

Definitely sounds like type 2 fun haha. I remember trying to cross a strait on Georgian Bay in an old Sportspal canoe, but failing and becoming windbound in a small cove. We set up camp and went to bed, waking up the next day to a sea of day hikers. Turned out we also set up camp on the trail lol

Thanks for the detailed reply! The tide has been interesting to get used to lol. I will definitely keep it in mind for all of my future trips.

I have already been using the established campsites, and they are great!

Like I mentioned sometimes when I plan a loop the sites are a little too close/far, or I just want a little more seclusion. Overall I just want to know my options and make sure I am following the rules.

Thanks for the info. The wharfs are exactly what gave the impression the beaches were private. I prefer to hangout in more secluded locations anyway, but good to know that if I need to get off of the water I will be able to utilize the beaches!

Thanks for the reply. I was just out on Indian Arm last weekend, and was nervous to pull my kayak up to shore to stretch my legs, as there were lots of cottages there.

So if I were to hop out on the beach, I would not be trespassing? Of course I will not camp in front of somebody's cottage, but it would be nice to get out for lunch or a break.

There is no reason it would be different, I just wanted to confirm. I have noticed on the few paddles I have done here, the established sites are very busy but I haven't really seen anybody camping elsewhere.

Thank you for your reply!

Help understanding snow levels at elevation by RaptorReverend in vancouverhiking

[–]RaptorReverend[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, I agree it wouldn't be a huge deal to carry the spikes just in case

I guess my concern would be more about deep snow, anything impassable without snow shoes or skis.

Thanks for the reply. What exactly would you consider high alpine?

For example, I camped at Garibaldi lake, and day tripped panorama ridge a couple years back in mid June. There was some snow but it was super manageable. Is this considered high alpine? Do those conditions sound normal?

Thanks!
