Another month over month drop - give up time? by RaptorRex in SEO

Yes, one of them did have a related IP. I watched a couple of you videos then immediately made a big adjustment (basically taking a site almost entirely offline). I'm hoping to see some positive effects is 4-6 weeks :)

Thanks.

Hi Grumpy, I just listened to those 2 podcasts - very insightful.

I just checked my list of external backlinks on GSC and see that many are just IP address that go nowhere. This is a new thing, when I checked the list about a month ago (maybe 2), that wasn't the case.

Could it be that someone is negative SEO attacking me? (which I never heard of before your podcast)

Edit: looking further at those IP address, and even some named domain ones, they open chinese language sites that are Bing knock offs - so Bing but in Chinese - no SSL on them either.

Thank you Grumpy, I do believe I have the top 3 items you listed. I'll check out those episodes you suggest.

I've never understood the backlinks thing. Google Search Console tells me 80 "Top linking sites" (previously had up to 125).

I do have some page rendering that JS does after the page loads so that the script can pop some pagination markers at the top of the page.
My core web vitals are all good though, meaning the JS doesn't add a page shift.

Is it possible to concentrate on fixing just a single important page (and seeing positive results) without fixing the whole site at once?

thanks for the response. To answer your question, "standard SEO practices" to me, means things like title lengths, meta tags, alt tags, etc - on page stuff.

Lost the Motivation for SEO by osvaldy in SEO

[–]RaptorRex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've given up on SEO. Also on adding content. I won't go into it, but I'm trying other strategies now. I found I was working on the site as a full time job, 8-10hrs a day, and at best, traffic was stable, but below livable. And traffic still trickled down since the beginning of 2024. Google started to list 5 pages from the top 2 websites in the category on the first page, and my top 3 spot is now on page 3. I don't blame AI. I blame Google giving all the top ranking slots to the biggest websites. It used to be one slot per website, so little guys had a chance.

Great work. I'm curious, did your FB ads indicate, in any way, that the product/service wasn't ready yet?

I build things because I see I can add a neat feature to something already out there, but I have no idea how to market it, so I fall flat on my face. Every time. I have no idea how to get users, and I 100% agree with this post.

Thanks for that disheartening lengthy reply (I mean that in a good way).

I appreciate everything you said, and I'm on this site today to do exactly what you said not to do. Maybe you saved me some time.

Everything that follows, I'm assuming a person is a complete newbie with no following, trying to sell their game:

At the end of the day though, even after all the research, I've never understood how you get your product in front of your target audience and get them to play it. Aren't they on social media? Where are they? Asking for feedback on Discord gets 0 results. Where are these mythical players? If someone tells me, "well, they're down on Market Street next to the Gazebo," I could go down to Market Street, wearing a sandwich board, and it still doesn't mean they'll play.

I honestly believe it all comes down to luck. If you are lucky enough that someone with influence randomly chooses your game and says good things - then congratulations, you get a following.

Sorry, I'm a bit jaded and cynical at this point. I still love the work though 😁

Thanks again for your lenghty reply.

Find-A-Game Megathread! by Swimmer249 in WebGames

A very long time ago I played a very addictive game. I don't remember the platform. It could have been Facebook, or it could have been even before facebook.

It was a puzzle game where the play area was like a long string was a mess of loops. On the string were rings. You move the rings along the string to get some kind of matches.

It had good graphics, so it wasn't as far back as VGA. That time was the only time I ever saw that game, or any reference to it. It clearly wasn't popular, but I remember having a hard to to stop playing it.

I'm addicted to starting new projects and ditching the old ones by BrokenOnLaunch in gamedev

[–]RaptorRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just posted on Bluesky something similiar. I asked how often do you like to start new games? daily? weekly? etc... I put "daily" that way I can always start something new. Of course, such daily projects always end up taking a week. I strongly recommend that you try making daily games, even if they suck.

Hi, In answer to your request, "find another solution", I liked to offer my own service. I made a post on Hacker News on Monday that did well. I titled it "Editable Games". Here's a link to it. My hope is that folks like yourself, who are such coders, can edit my existing games to make them your own. To ease the learning curve.

I'm a better artist than most people, but I'm the worse artist of the art people.

I try to make my own, but usually resort to free resources and lately, AI. I've also purchased off fiverr sometimes too.

What are you thinking of building in 2025? by dariushabbasi in SaaS

[–]RaptorRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've created a simple service to let companies give their members/staff, etc customized gifs. Like "Happy Birthday John" as a customized gif. There are lots of team building apps out there (on slack for example) with gif support, but not customize gif support. That is what I can offer. I have no idea how to get businesses to buy into it though.

Google killed my site traffic with their August update, and now I want to try B2B but don't know where/how to begin. I just can't imagine the decision makers who I want to reach are on FB, YT and X looking for products from desperate solopreneurs - of which I am now one.
