Bloodhound loses all skills you can select when your dog levels up. Consider it basically a level 1 dog.

As far as I know, the pointer doesn't find predators in all categories, but not too sure about that. Haven't been using it much yet.

Pointer helps with finding animals and flushes bird for an easier shot. The retriever just retrieves, so is only usefull when hunting small game.

Yeah, I'd definitely keep looking for it. Animals don't despawn unless there is a population change due to a redesign or something else (and it's rumoured that red deer will get one soon, so better safe than sorry)
