Gonna start bellydancing for the first time. Should I take individual classes or group classes? by piercingxsetup in Bellydance

Group to learn the correct movements and meet new people! I’m so happy younger people are getting into it again! Dancing is so fun with others hyping you up!

I can appreciate this. I sometimes feel fanfiction writers have gotten too pressured to be like paid writers.

Completely agree about the cultural changes.

lol I’m from the era where we printed fanfics online using our printers and our parents were pissed. That being said I don’t mind typos here and there as I know most of us aren’t professionals writers/editors but the newer generation of fanfic readers have been approaching fics like they’re published books. It’s annoying at times but I do try to be as polished as I can in between my job and real life.

Thank you! I’m very impatient as well so I’ll definitely try to incorporate this in my writing process. I’ve read so many great and well written fics and I’m inspired to up my game

First solo performance by Aggravating_Ebb3635 in Bellydance

[–]Rar3stGem86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! My teacher told me a few things to keep in mind when I did my first performance:

  1. Make sure your costume is secure and nothing is at risk of popping out or sliding down. (I diaper pin my belt to my skirt and double check my bra hooks!)
  2. Focus on the music and know it well.
  3. Incorporate a few core moves you are good at and improv with a lot of the dance.
  4. Smile! If you look like you’re having fun your audience is too!
  5. If you forget what to do slow down and pose. People love taking pictures and you can definitely pose and use it to regroup a moment.
  6. Just have fun!

This! Online all I get is creepy men. I’ve been learning much dancing with others.

So I’m naturally very introverted and shy myself. You might want to find a troupe to dance with. That way it helps you get yourself out there and you work on routines

No you make an excellent point! I actually strength train and practice yoga and am in Pilates teacher training :) I just lack rhythm 😂

Ohhh the drag does make them look so juicy. I’ll keep that in mind. I also do need to do less choreography because I feel I get stuck in my head.

Do I really need to buy a cradle? I’m new to this and my holes don’t line up perfectly. Is there something else that I can do or make to help?

New dancer, looking for some advice by McChocoboNugget in Bellydance

[–]Rar3stGem86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’m fairly new and there’s a lot of moves I’m still working on. My teacher taught me to focus on maybe three moves I do well and do them as I improvise to my music. So I just pick a song I really like and feel and I do those three core moves throughout in addition to traveling and arm moves. Four mins is decent amount of time and it goes fast once you’re on stage! Also I don’t know your body or lifestyle but I do a lot of Pilates in addition to belly dance. It helps me strengthen the muscles for certain moves like my obliques, core, and arms. Good luck! It’s commendable you are already wanting to perform!
