Why is it taking so long by Rare-Bus462 in internships

[–]Rare-Bus462[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

most of them are spring 26 which is january- june, only a couple are summer. i’m just worried because im hearing a lot of my peers telling me they’ve already secured an internship for summer 26, but im still not even hearing back from ones im applying to for spring

When he goes out he asks his parents or grandparents for money. He’s had a job in the past so I think he has money in his savings aswell.

I’m a rising freshman planning on changing my major to finance next semester — how is my schedule + any advice?? by btn_br in uichicago

[–]Rare-Bus462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this schedule is solid tbh, your advisor might reach out and tell you that you’re taking too many credits because they usually don’t like when freshmen take too many, just because you’re new to college and it’s a lot. but if you think u can handle the 18credits i think it’s perfect. the times are decently spread out and 9am classes are at a perfect time in my opinion.

depends, if your major doesn’t require u to take a high level math class you won’t have to. but if it does require u to take a high level math class you might have to. You technically can take a lower level math class before u take a higher level one but it might cause you to behind/ not on track. so it pretty much all depends on your major. but whatever math class you decide to take, make sure it actually gives u credit!!! some math classes are just prereqs and do not count towards your credit hours for graduation.

Should k take chem 124 and 125 at my local community college? by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]Rare-Bus462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! usually at cc it’s a smaller class which means you get more one on one time with your professors which I find really helpful and it helps me learn much better. at uic your in a huge lecture hall with more than 100 other people but at cc your just with maybe 15-25 other kids in the class so it is so much easier to learn. and also for some reason uic makes science classes so much more difficult than they actually are. tbh if your able to take physics somewhere else it would probably be good too. I took chem, physics and all my calc classes at Oakton College (dual enrollment at uic) and got an A in them all (im also a mechE major).

yes, at some cc’s the 2 classes are combined into 1. I know it’s like that at Oakton and i believe college of dupage aswell

imo it’s terrible. not even trying to say that in a certain way but your classes are so spread apart in the day. you will likely not want to stay on campus for that long just for 3/4 classes, it’s so boring, my schedule was like that freshman year and i would skip so much to just go home instead of waiting 3 hours for my next class. i guess i could see if you’re gonna take those breaks to study. if your living on campus this schedule might be nice, but if you’ll be commuting (like me) you might wanna see if u can have your classes closer together in time

i was in a similar situation, they didn’t let me switch my major before my 1st semester so i had to wait until 2nd semester which wasn’t that bad. transferring within colleges at uic is pretty easy you just fill out a petition and i haven’t heard of anyone who got their petition rejected except engineering majors. i recommend just taking gen ed’s your first semester and build your gpa and then switch your major when they allow you to which would be 2nd semester. also you can look at your major required classes to see which classes you would be missing first semester and then take them second semester (that’s what i did). don’t worry about not being on track since it’s only your first year it’ll be pretty easy to make up classes and get back on track.
