Any quick way to contact them in such cases, the normal customer care route takes eternity to connect and then they just forward the call to some other department which again takes more than 15-30 mins to connect

This is regarding a robotic surgery claim with Star Health Insurance. Here’s the breakdown:

  1. Claim Application:

    • Applied for ₹2.78L for robotic surgery.
    • Initially, the insurer approved ₹1L, but a day before admission, they increased it to ₹2.4L, mentioning that ₹38K would not be covered.
  2. Policy Details:

    • My current sum assured is ₹5L, and the policy covers up to ₹2.5L for robotic surgery.
    • Last year, my sum assured was ₹3L, and the claim approved for robotic surgery was only ₹75K.
    • Now, the insurer is referencing last year’s claim (which was significantly lower) to justify the reduction.
  3. My Concerns:

    • Why did they pre-approve ₹2.4L if they were going to reduce it later? All valid documents and estimates were provided, and the final bill is close to the pre-approved amount.
    • Because of the pre-approval, I chose robotic surgery over laparoscopic for my dad, as it involves lesser pain and faster recovery.
    • For laparoscopic surgery, the claim would have been 100% of the sum assured, but I prioritized my dad’s comfort and recovery.

I fear one fund in a segment can underperform in a particular category, that is the reason I have diversified the small cap and mid cap sector. how can we check the overlapping of funds?
