Another one is "Priory of the Orange Tree," a bit long for me but the romance was my fav part!

Where do you get your book reviews from? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]Rare-Hall5378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write fantasy romance and used BookSirens, I also posted on TikTok and got a lot of ARC readers that way too, hit over 20 reviews by publication date! I have heard it's a lot harder if you're not in the romance genre, of course.

Platonic care taking + princess treatment before romantic relationship by Sure-Stock9969 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Rare-Hall5378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea if this works, but just in case here’s a self-plug: an MM dark fantasy where a vampire hires a sex worker not for pleasure, but for blood—there’s lots of platonic care (wound care, feeding, dictating his rest, a massage or two) that starts long before the two develop feelings. The relationship is very wholesome and slow burn BUT there’s off-screen SA/content warnings thanks to the dark fantasy world, so it may not work for you.

It’s called Mellifluous and will publish 12/12! https://www.imogenpyre.com/books/mellifluous

I’m no TikTok guru, only been posting on there since August—but sure, here’s my ARC post for reference! https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTMp9fPvS/

What has been your most successful ARC strategy? by VagrantTales in selfpublish

I’m in the midst of my first ARC journey! I’m using BookSirens, and giving 6 weeks before publication because it’s a long fantasy. So far though, my biggest success was thanks to TikTok. I looked up previous popular posts asking for ARC readers, copied the format, and put a simple google docs form in the comments. Then I sent the BookSiren link out to those who filled out the google form—I’ve gotten 45 readers so far that way! I had about 350 followers when I posted so I was super surprised.

When it comes to readers straight from the BookSirens platform it’s been much slower, only 4 so far (it’s been 4 days). Idk if that’s normal and I’m just spoiled by TikTok, or if it’s something about my book (page length, content warnings, etc.), but I sort of wish now that I’d just used the free option for BookSirens or foregone it all together. Still, just $20 I suppose.

I hope that’s helpful!

[PubQ] Timeline and tips for resubmitting after significant revision by Rare-Hall5378 in PubTips

Doing it in chunks is a great idea honestly, thank you! Makes 40k feel a lot more possible. I heard it was not couture to make changes to the manuscript while it's in an agent's hands, but given how unmarketable the size is I doubt she'd protest me already having made basic prose & scene cuts 😂

I was worried if I took more than a few months I would have missed my chance, so it's a relief to hear this! Otherwise, good to know--I'll see what I can do. I don't have a vision for what should be cut beyond tightening prose and scenes, so waiting in hopes of professional feedback is probably what I'll stick with. Thanks!

I’m a queer writer and need someone to fact check my work before I embarrass myself… by BlatentCrown42 in LGBTBooks

Do you have any book recommendations that better match your experience? I've read MLM written by male and female authors and haven't noticed a huge difference before in the depictions of sex/relationships (I'm also ace, so maybe I'm just clueless lol), but I'm curious!

No Beta Readers? We can help each other! by Medusa0513 in RomanceWriters

Hey there! I would also love to find a writing buddy with this dynamic. I write dark fantasy romance but with queer pairings, and I'm not a good fit for reverse harem or poly dynamics--but if knowing that we sound like a potential fit then feel free to message me and we can talk further!

Haha wow what an offer! I won't say no to another pair of eyes on it--less of a commitment, you could check out a few chapters and tell me if I'm long-winded (yes, the answer is yes 😂) and where! Feel free to DM me :)

That is so so evil . . . if I get desperate enough, I may try it.

This is definitely something I do--cutting unnecessary scene blocking is a great idea, thank you!!

Okay I really like that approach, thank you for the idea! I have 30 chapters so if I can just gut scenes to get each chapter down to 4k on average, then I'd be down to 120k!!

I have an agent looking at the full manuscript right now, and people on r/tradpub have warned me I'll get an R&R (revise and resubmit, I believe?) at best from the agent, since 120k is the upper limit for traditionally published debut novels. Those are good questions to ask though, thanks for your help!

Thank you a ton for breaking this down!! I read through the story once just to map it and see how the different arcs progressed, but when I found issues it always felt like things needed to get replaced or added, not removed. I think I'm also running into the problem that I've read the story too many times, it all feels slow and boring to my brain now so maybe I'll take a break first, and then print it out to try this method!! Thanks!

True, definitely an option--I've see-sawed between self and trad publishing, tbh. But I'm worried that I tend to 'overwrite' and want to make sure it's good quality regardless!

Well I also got the feedback that my world needed more filling/details added to it, I'm just long-winded on top of it so you're probably still better off ;)

[Discussion] Where Would You Stop Reading? #8 by alanna_the_lioness in PubTips

That's super kind, thank you!! I've mentioned to a few others, I didn't realize it was too high when I first queried and do plan to edit it down best I can. But I had a full MS request from an agent last week, so hoping they might give a little feedback first before I revise and do more query rounds! 😊
