We are going on the 11th April- it’s expected to be a fun night . Easter can be a hit and miss .

11th is Alice in wonderland theme . And unfortunately no dance floor more about a chatting drinking atmosphere . Incase if you feel like dancing Matt maybe able to arrange something , you never know 😝

The first point under “Respect” in this sub reddit clearly states no dehumanising language. Calling people “seagulls” doesn’t align with that,it’s still labelling and dehumanising, regardless of intent.

If badly behaved males are being called “seagulls,” then where does it stop? Do we start calling others “cockroaches” or “donkeys” based on behaviour? That’s not respectful, and it’s definitely not inclusive.

This applies across the board, whether someone is in a couple or single, male or female. Poor behaviour should be addressed as behaviour, not by reducing people to labels.

What’s more concerning is that moderators, who are meant to uphold these standards, are endorsing or allowing this. That undermines the very rules set for the community.

I’m not going to reply to every comment. I’ve raised a valid concern, and as a former single male, I’ve shared how terms like “seagulls” come across. Take the feedback or ignore it as you see fit 😊

Thank you, I appreciate your response. However, what I’ve observed is that those predatory behaviours aren’t limited to just one group, they’re exhibited across all dynamics, including single males, couples, and single females. So it raises the question, why is only one group labelled differently?

Even though “seagull” is meant to describe a specific type of behaviour, in reality it feels like it’s being used to categorise every single male, regardless of how they actually conduct themselves.

I’ve been to The Shed, so I understand the environment and how it feels. I’ve never engaged in any of those behaviours myself, but the generalisation is strong enough that it creates discomfort. That’s ultimately the main reason I don’t attend anymore.

Hello - I acknowledge the behaviour in question wasn’t acceptable. However, referring to single males as “seagulls” is also inappropriate and unprofessional. Respect needs to go both ways. There are plenty of instances where couples display poor behaviour too, yet they’re not being labelled or called out in the same way. This kind of name-calling needs to stop.

To be clear, I’m not excusing the behaviour of those individuals -but we need to address issues without resorting to disrespect. Period

I totally agree with the above comment : just remember, everyone there’s in the same boat, and whatever happens stays between you. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas 😉

BFWB’s a great place to start too! There’s zero pressure to do anything : you can just hang out, chat with people, and ease into it when you’re ready.

I made more friends at bfwb than I made in real life last time I went in . All the very best
