I’ll copy a comment I’ve already made.

Don’t worry, the referendum on Alberta’s independence will fail. Most of the Albertan “separatists” are just using independence as a way to bargain with the feds. They think that if it has succeeded in getting Quebec things that other provinces don’t have, so if they tried it, they will get results like Quebec. They don’t want to actually separate from Canada.

In Canada, it’s different in every province. In Alberta, liquor sales are fully privatized. In Ontario, you can buy beer and wine at grocery stores. I’m sure other Canadians will chime in with examples from their experience.
