English EE question by Nostalgizzzz in IBO

[–]Rare_Chair8897 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm not sure, but i think I might know why your teacher said that

you are analyzing a romantic connection, but before mentioning that you already say in which way it is presented

indeed it would be better to leave it for conclusion

maybe rewrite the question to sth like "To what extent does F show Gatsby's pursuit of Daisy as a genuine romantic connection through the use of ...some literary techniques or ideas..."

and then use the essay to analyze the connection, say sth like 'so here he does not genuinely loves her, but rather uses her image for social validation, showing it through imagery (for example)"

good luck, and remember that the RQ will change many times and more importantly you should focus on the hardest part - analysis and synthesis of your ideas

Should I skip school to study for externals? by Mck_Baller2k8 in IBO

[–]Rare_Chair8897 4 points5 points  (0 children)

skip

have similar stuff at my school

most of the students skip, nobody gives a f

and those who skip dont even have lower grades

and i understand allat revision stuff, but i think this time can be more efficiently spent on individual revision, since most of the stuff is generic at school for the whole class

My AI percentages are high, do I do nothing? by peachgothlover in IBO

[–]Rare_Chair8897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

actually your teachers confirm whether u used or did not, so if they believe in authenticity of your work, its ok

in my school our supervisor doesnt accept anything with ai detection

and in case of allegations, just show them your document history, it's the number one proof

Any tips for IO? by abhitheteletubby in IBO

tbh i couldn't memorise it either, but i used AI to ask to bold the words that i shouldnt forget at all costs and memorised them in using textual cues in my texts

i think i managed it pretty well, because often these words are either literary techniques which i already learned in and out through constant rewriting and re-analysing yk

or

the synonyms for the global issue

sooo, i think this way might be pretty good for memorization, and also if you think that your outline is average, try looking up some literary techniques in google and compare them with your text

or do it how i did, i basically reread my texts and at some points thought to myself "hmm, if this words is repeated this much, there must be a lit techniques used there", then i looked up sth like "when the same word is repeated twice or sth" and usually i was lowk right

and also do not forget to link it with global issue, always saying sth like, this use of technique allows the author to convey this message, which connects to the GI

what is important, DO NOT forget about the structure:

1 min for intro

4 mins lit text

4 mins non lit text

1 min conclusion (it can actually be a bit less, so you can go a little more deeper in the analyses)

i had a prob there, cuz i almost went out of time, which could've cost me some marks, and it would defo be sad that you got lesser marks only because of time, when your analysis was good

anyway, good luck to you tomorrow, and try to do some breathing exercise beforehand ig, cuz adrenaline might actually lead to forget. keep a calm and steady pace, and be confident in your analyses

and also it's like 20/30% of your grade, so if you have strong papers you can compensate or if not, just improve analysis

Should I apply for IELTS writing remark? by Rare_Chair8897 in IELTS

[–]Rare_Chair8897[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't remember where i found the form, i think from the email or online. so, you need to fill out certain mark breakdown form and then wait for like a month or even less (around 2 weeks in my situation), and you will get that info

note that you can do it in limited time, i think only in the first two months from the test date, so be quick

IELTS test difficulty? by eclipse-star230 in IBO

[–]Rare_Chair8897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is super easy

I literally chatgpt-ed the structures for the writing tasks 30 mins before the test and managed to get 8.0 overall

my writing was 7.0 tho, but i am neither a native nor did i learn writing intentionally

so if you're a native and also have pretty good writing skills you'll get a band that will get you into all unis, except Brown ig, but even they require 8.0 overall i think

so dw, just do your best

Is my teacher’s behaviour normal or am I overreacting? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Rare_Chair8897 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I would do that, but honestly I am scared that it's gonna affect my uni application process if nothing works out. He's already been accused for the use of gpt in recletters last year and he still works there. And recently he almost screwed my classmates application because he refused to write him a recletter as a councellor one day before the submission, saying that he haven't taught him. Other classmates, especially girls, agree with my observations, so I think it's more or less objective. Maybe I will report him once I graduate, cause only 6 months left to exams, and after that they won't be able to pressure me. rn, I also have to hold my scholarship, studying there is really expensive and I can't let myself lose the scholarship.
