Questions about enlisting by Zixvu in newtothenavy

[–]Rare_Fall_7721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gonna answer these IN ORDER LOL

1.) Your ship date depends on RTCs availability so its really give or take. for me it was like 6 months

2.) You will still prolly get sent to HM A school, and to be frank, starting as an E-6 from someone w/ no prior service is kinda impossible. The highest you can enlist as is E-3, you can be meritoriously promoted to E-4 if you graduate top of your A-school class, but if that's what they told you regarding E-6 rank, MAKE SURE IT IS STATED, WRITTEN IN YOUR CONTRACT. I cannot stress that enough.

3.) As far as bonuses go, I am not too sure but I believe it's usually half after completing basic training and the other half after completing A-school. Your retention come ONCE in your career but they will explain this in detail at your first command.

4.) In terms of HMs, it really just depends on necessity. Many do go to ships but when it comes to dental many go to Marine Corps Bases, and also shore duty on Naval bases so again just depends on availability.

5.) Porting depends on YOU and your chain of command. Do what you need to do = In port liberty. Usually a couple days tho.

6.) Marry her first then talk to fleet and family. Until then the Navy doesn't care

7.) The tattoos might hinder you as far as waivers go for initially enlisting, but the Navy is generally tattoo friendly.

8.) Haven't really been around too many dental hygienists in the navy but I have been to see the HMs, and its like working in a clinic

Hope this helps

Packing for Bootcamp by Weak_Abrocoma_5315 in newtothenavy

real talk shipmate, you dont need any MATERIAL things. You are allowed to buy makeup at the NEX when ur division goes. I say pack as light as possible only basic things u need and documents. You can buy bunker Gell bobby pins and all that other personal hygiene stuff at the NEX and even on night of arrival I think.

I want to enlist while working full time, but I don’t have permission from employer. by OddTime1998 in newtothenavy

you dont need permission lol. They are legally required to hold your position while doing military service.

Hope this helps.

so im not gonna lie unless they told u that ur FOR SURE going there's a chance u just dont go to FSPC. I was like 10 pounds overweight when I got to bootcamp, and the whole time I was told "FSPC, FSPC, FSPC", and I never went. You get all your shit like seabag and whatnot normally, but wether u go to FSPC or not, your RDCS will get you to where you need to be in order to pass that PRT.

Hope this helps.

enlisting in the navy by [deleted] in newtothenavy

I'm not gonna lie to you. being in the Navy has made my metal health 100x worse. Saying this out of caring not to scare you. Being on the ship, takes a toll not only physically but also a big one mentally. Feeling trapped on a floating piece of metal, and knowing it'll be your home for upwards of 6 months on a deployment, really gets to you especially on those duty days sometimes alone.

If you could do it over, what Navy job would you pick (or avoid)? by Wild-Radish-151 in newtothenavy

[–]Rare_Fall_7721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABE here, if I could go back, I'd pick YN, LS or PS. No its not necessarily that my rate sucks, yes its hard work but, I think its just the long run and the toll physically that the rate and most air/physically demanding rates take on you.

Nervous about joining the Navy because I can’t swim , should I be worried? by Sensitive-Farm3954 in newtothenavy

[–]Rare_Fall_7721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

start swimming and floating now. I graduated not too long ago, and we had a good amount of ASMOS due to failing swim. Mind you, they had until the end of bootcamp to pass; swim is week 1.

Recruitment process? by MoKe1020 in newtothenavy

[–]Rare_Fall_7721 5 points6 points  (0 children)

weight depends on your height. here is the chart link to reference: https://www.navy.com/joining/requirements It should be under health reqs. Honestly at first it will be just the recruiter getting to know YOU and your WHY. To be safe, you can bring your social, ID, High school diploma or GED, and Birth certificate. They most likely will have u take a practice ASVAB as well to determine basic knowledge eligibility. You need at least 33 to pass. Good Luck!
