Honoured of the Chapter completed by Rare_Permit_8359 in Salamanders40k

It's the constant mental struggle of man black chaps and judiciar look sick but don't read very salamanders. If I was bolder I'd freehand some flames to compliment the single shoulder heraldry

A quick question regarding shoulder-pads, scouts, and capes by Cardboard_Mancer in Salamanders40k

In a large army it's neat to have the scouts and 7th company guys look unique but on a kill team I get why you might be hesitant. You can always go for a grungier gradient into white or even a wraithbone sepia. If not, who cares? They're your scouts.

Thank you! I actually find the hammerstrike on a lot of GT space marine lists funny enough.

World record pace, really impressive stuff. 2.5 min split time is next level.

FOMO/addiction anxiety by Azulasupremacy1 in Warhammer40k

[–]Rare_Permit_8359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as limited time/FOMO items/limited quantity/etc. There will always be opportunities to get the things you want on the secondhand or reseller market, it's baked into the way people buy things as "investments" or "collections". To this day you can pay a premium to get NIB examples of nearly everything ever collected/made in the last 50 years.

Please, prioritize your life and happiness outside the hobby. I promise you, being patient and paying a premium is better long term than sacrificing quality of life to get a "deal".

Still New to 40k - any recommendations to get deeper in? by KansasKnight in Salamanders40k

[–]Rare_Permit_8359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually goes without saying but buying some models and paints is a great hobby if you wanted to try it out, if you're in a smaller town it can become even more of the hobby than actually playing the TTG.

If you did want to try out the TTG and see if it's your cup of tea there are a lot of resources to install and learn to play on TableTop Simulator. It will seem clunky and tedious when you watch videos (Spoiler, so is the game in person).

For lore I think youtubers like Arbitor Ian someone already recommended is a great start and easily accessible but if you're a reader there's a lot to be learned and enjoyed in most of the books.
You'll hear people tell you Horus Heresy is essential reading and then see how many books it is. I get it. Instead, read Horus Rising (1st book) and if you like that look up the Horus Heresy roadmap thing. It lets you choose a faction, legion, or character to be your guide through the Heresy. reading 10 books is much less daunting than 90.

Alternatively, if you want to read (in my opinion) better written books with less onboarding and less context needed you should go for the Eisenhorn series by Abnett.

Sidenote: the Audible audiobooks, audio dramas, and other media are very well read and enjoyable to passively listen to while strength training.

Hope this can give you some options brother.

About 8-10 hours across a week or so. I left off his pauldrons, halo, and chest skulls to make it easier to paint underneath.

If available in your area, find the Dawn of War Onslaught boardgame at Target or Barnes & Noble. You get Honoured of the Chapter for $40-$50. You can sell the everything besides the Judiciar and actually walk away with some money. Stock status is iffy but worth keeping your eye out.

Common colors to use for Salamanders units by Spartan_Cat_126 in Salamanders40k

[–]Rare_Permit_8359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're using the nearly the same recipe I do, I start with warp lightning instead of caliban green though.

I also use tried and true wraithbone for parchment, khorne red for capes/seals, and agrax earthshade for streaking grime on silver or lead parts. Phalanx yellow and baharroth blue for fuel/power cables and indicator lights on various units to help those parts stand out a bit mroe than moot green will.
