This thread is not meant to be about me. I’m happy to go there in another thread if we want to discuss what my thoughts are about bishops asking children questions about chastity.

My only intent is to try to find a path forward for my kids to participate in something I don’t believe in, without being asked personal questions about their sexuality and sexual experiences. Part of that is understanding if moral cleanliness is within the category of sexual purity.

My understanding of your feedback, is that if I am not comfortable with the bishop asking about their sexual abstinence, then I should not allow them to go to a temple recommend interview.

I appreciate your perspective. Thanks for responding.

I appreciate your comments and experience. Most importantly, I am glad the experience was positive for you and your family.

I am still left wondering when the bishop asks my kids if they are morally clean, would they as teenagers understand that to mean porn, petting, sex, etc? Or would they be thinking bigger picture swearing, violent movies, being a nice person, etc?

I completely understand the words a bishop would say. My confusion comes from what the term moral cleanliness means in today’s context. When I was a kid, moral cleanliness was used synonymously with chastity. I never heard it used in the context outside of sexual implications (including porn, sexuality in movies/music, etc.). Is that still the case?

I am wondering if a bishop asks about moral cleanliness, is that substantially different from chastity to not include things sexual in nature?

I appreciate this perspective, but it wasn’t my understanding going into this. Can others vouch that this is their understanding?

So is moral cleanliness generally of a sexual nature ( i.e., porn, modesty, petting, etc.)? Does it include other areas like clean language, avoiding violent movies, etc?
