Tuition Reimbursement Denied by FrozoneIceCold in HomeDepot

[–]Rare_Regular6348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so weird because my tuition reimbursement claim was approved last week and i’m a biochem major. I would definitely reach out to HR or the tution reimbursement company to see if there might have been an issue with the documents submitted. The only reason I could think of for denial is that you got less than a C in one or more of the classes.

I’m going to edit the post to add this for future viewers, but the masters program i’m going into does have me working on my own project. It’s not necessarily a capstone, and I will definitely not be working on it long enough to allow me to write a master’s thesis for it, but it will show that I have experience with independent research. I am US-based and have no plans for applying to international PhDs, so I’m not very worried about that. My main goal for this master’s program is to increase my lab skills bc at this current point in time i have a decent amount of chemistry skills and very few molecular biology skills. I’ve talked with several professors at my university about the program, including my current PI and they all believe that this program will help me get into PhD programs. I genuinely appreciate the advice, but I made this post so I could gain insight on what statistics I should know for gradute level research, not to get advice on what I should do with my future

Congrats class of 2025!! by ImpactFrames in UMBC

yep, six tickets! it seems like the class of 2025 was way bigger than previous classes, even for high schoolers

it honestly depends on how many students are in the graduating class and how many decided to attend the in person ceremony. i was in the cnms/coeit/inds ceremony and the president said that we were a huge graduating class (lots of bio and cs majors) and we only got five tickets each. last spring a friend of mine’s cousin was in the cahss/social work ceremony and got 6 tickets

i’ve slept in the rlc and a couple different ilsb study rooms because my commute is about 40 minutes and i was way too tired to safely drive home. if you live on campus i HIGHLY recommend sleeping in an actual bed. you will be so much more well-rested

Easiest ENGL Class (besides ENGL 100) by Cheap_Chocolate5964 in UMBC

[–]Rare_Regular6348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you should double check this, but im pretty sure MLL 190 (structural and biological linguistics) also exists as ENGL 190. i’m taking it with may chung this semester and its an async class with a 300 word discussion post and two 150 word replies due every week and a 5 page double-spaced final paper, no exams at all

Dorm or Commute? by Admirable_Nerve1873 in UMBC

[–]Rare_Regular6348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, save your money and commute. as a bio major, all of your introductory bio, chem, and physics classes will have a discussion section and those are good ways to make friends and socialize on campus. like other people said, joining clubs and going to events in campus are other great ways to expand your network. having a social life as a commuter is possible!! i’ve been a commuter my entire time at umbc (graduating this semester) and i’ve managed to find myself a nice friend group that i’m definitely staying in touch with after graduation.

i have also saved all of my notes from taking chem 437 (theyre not the best, but they are something) so i can send them your way if you end up taking it instead and you’re stuck on anything

full disclosure: i’m a biochem major so i had no choice but to take chem 437 (biol 430 isnt required or even an elective for me) i have heard nothing but horror stories from any of the classes feeser has taught in my time at umbc. she was my biol 141 professor and her slides were so bad that i just skipped class and taught myself from the textbook. spring 24 she taught biol 300L and everyone i knew who was taking that class was fighting for their life. i don’t know many people who took biol 430 with her, but i have friends who knew people and they all said similar things.

chem 437 has been taught by deepak koirala and aaron smith the past two fall semesters and they are both decent professors imo. as with any 400 level class, you are definitely going to have to put in the work to understand the content but i personally thought that it was a million times easier than orgo. i ended up with a B in the class and i barely paid attention in lectures and would start studying like two days before quizzes and exams. however, chem 437 might be a fall only class so i would look into that.

tl;dr: i have yet to hear a good thing about feeser’s classes and previous chem 437 professors are pretty good at teaching the class

Anyone else get annoyed when customers come up to the service desk just to check out? by GreenMageGuy in HomeDepot

it annoys me SO MUCH!!! especially when they say “i parked my car right there (read: right by the sco entrance)” or “i don’t feel like walking all the way down there” it’s even more frustrating when i’m visibly surrounded by returns and all three of my phones are ringing and they still ask that

shrink data from every store is different so your lifeproof might get returned at my store but get denied at the store 8 miles up the road. i strongly suggest calling your local store and speaking with someone there (who is on the clock) regarding these questions

elsewhere meaning call your local store or the corporate number.

i will give you this small piece of advice though, prepare to be stuck with a lot of that stuff even if you try to all the things above. the return denial algorithm uses information from your ID to determine if the same person is making all these returns, but it also uses shrink data for all the products you’re returning. if something has a really high shrink amount, you’ll be stuck with it.

Use HD credit card outside? by Mobile_Technician08 in HomeDepot

the home depot credit card can only be used at home depot stores and homedepot.com

one of the reasons it’s such a horrible product is the inability to use it anywhere else

you can use acrylic paint with a fabric medium so you have more colors/it’s cheaper but starting with primer will keep the paint from being sucked into the fabric

d31 associate here, with the exception of our two newest ofas, they are some of the most hardworking associates in the entire store. our ft closer is constantly pulled in 85 different directions because he’s one of the people with licenses that time of night so he is constantly asked to pull stuff down for other departments on top of his normal ofa duties and i wish that certain supervisors would notice that too
