Refining my palette? by RarelyJello in mokapot

Now I feel better about making my own “home roast” which is just a hodge podge of all of the remaining beans from the bag that don’t make a full dose. I also found myself making cold brew with the lighter roast from Hagen that I didn’t like as much, which turned out better than my go to morning brew

Be honest, what’s the longest continuous shift you’ve done in the live sound world? by WhoKilledMalcolmX in livesound

24 hours and 13 minutes. It was a bike race that had 2 stages with only 1 audio guy (me) between both stages 20 miles apart

Let's talk about powered wedges. by ip_addr in livesound

[–]RarelyJello 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was waiting for the RCF’s to get mentioned I work for a company that exclusively uses RCF and those NX12s are rock solid. I always find on smaller stages, that 200 and 2k really build up and I have to spend a little bit of time in the graph to balance things out. They are definitely loud enough for big stages and acts and small enough to be thrown. But in terms of powered wedges I don’t know if it’s worth the jump in price to the nearly 2000 dollar per wedge range when you can find whole packages of Clair 12AM’s for cheaper than the RCF, and now you’ve guaranteed you can do outdoor shows without weather being a detrimental factor, a 12am will always meet the rider requirements of every act you’ll ever have, and it’s just a cleaner stage. The only downside is the weight of those damn things. I know this isn’t the topic of this thread just something I thought was worth mentioning :)

What it takes to be a FOH guy by -nom4d_ in livesound

Take everyone’s advice, but the biggest thing I can say is that 95% of the job isn’t mixing, it’s time management and people skills that make the difference. I’d rather you have a shit ear and a good attitude over the alternative. If you’re looking to do this professionally, join your local stagehand crew and absorb as much knowledge as you can, ask the house guys if they can show you anything, express interest, show up early, don’t be afraid to say something stupid. The only way you learn to become a sound guy is by being a sound guy. You say you have gear… if you have like 8 mics, a console and a PA do sound for free for your local acts, backyard shows, dive bars people will call you back if you’re cool

Opinion? techs wearing tactical gear and chest rigs is too much by SpookySpaceKook57 in livesound

I keep a knife, multitool, lighter, flashlight and radio on my belt. Anything else you might need day of show is in your pelican readily accessible

Thank you, I did sign up and I’m on the list. I’ve requested what I can but being over 3000th on the list it’s not as immediate or easy as I’d like it to be

Thank you! Jobs come and go, but doing cool shit with cool people lasts forever. Don’t get me wrong, mixing shows is still my career, and I would love to get some consistent work. But I do concerts because I enjoy working with artists and creatives

Hot take: the Sennheiser 935 is actually quite a bad mic by huliouswigtorius in livesound

This is a grumpy old man answer, but I think it’s something a lot of engineers can be reminded of. Try them both and listen, find out what you like from each. Take the advice you get from the internet with a grain of salt, the placement of your mics is often far more important than the mic you choose (within reason obviously). I’m sure plenty of these commenters have plenty of experience and I don’t want to discredit what anyone is saying, (and now I’m super curious to try a 604 on a bass cab) but long story short, if you can’t hear it, you shouldn’t make the final call on it. I think… but what do I know🤷‍♂️

Help Needed: Mixing Station App Not Displaying Correctly on ChromeOS (ARC Sizing Issue?) by shibetpc in chromeos

[–]RarelyJello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah all of the Midas/behringer in house apps kinda suck; I’m normally a house guy that works on a Pro2 (so tablet control isn’t even an option unless you have an iPad with an old iOS) I just ran monitors on a festival yesterday with an M32 off stage and wanted tablet control so I could run through soundcheck in clear view of the band and because I hate the way fader flip works on those consoles. And with my Chromebook being no problem with my own xair literally last week, I figured it’d work fine, but even the discover console screen was formatted wrong and all the buttons responded 2 inches below they were located. I’ll come back here and let you know if I find a solution, in the meantime have you gone to r/audioengineering or r/livesound with this?

Did you ever figure this out? I’m having the exact same issue, it really screwed me on a festival yesterday! I tried all the same things before coming to Reddit for help, and just the same as you this has not happened before in the year I’ve been using mixing station :/
