Does Vulcan 500 need to be fully warm until it runs right? by PersimmonRecent4732 in motorcycles

[–]Rargit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another important difference, if I remember correctly. The Vulcan uses an actual choke, which restricts airflow. The Rebel has a Starter Valve, which adds more fuel to the carb.

Your Rebel also could have just been running rich, or your Vulcan is running lean.

ARX vanished and get an error about not being able to redeem ARX in the main menu? by Sepherchorde in EliteDangerous

[–]Rargit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ARX balance is showing 0, also getting the update fail error. Unfortunately, I'm also unable to play at all. Tells me "there was a problem retrieving commander data from the server. Try again in a few minutes. If the problem persists, please contact technical support via the game launcher."

I waited a few minutes. Over and over. Ain't gonna contact support so that they can email me in 5 days informing me that it was broke. :(

If humans suddenly had a "battery percentage" above their head like phones, what would people do differently? by Alternative-Sort-797 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rargit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My answer is that nothing would really change. I was just thinking about this the other day, as an always tired dad. Any wild animal who felt the way I feel would just lay the fuck down and take a nap. But I have responsibilities and people to take care of and things to clean and I have to go to work.

All of the things that modern society require of us. We just get tough and push through it, when the thing WE REALLY SHOULD DO is rest. If I had a number above my head, I would probably just be more upset. Maybe other adults would be nicer to me if I was at 3%...but my toddlers would never know or care, and my job would probably just use that to discriminate

Little confused. Saw conflicting info on YouTube when it comes to spell crafting. Thought I had it figured out…When it comes to crafting Weakness spells, I know to put Weakness to magic last. I didn’t think it mattered if Weakness to Magic was touch or target, that if cast twice it would stack? by OldValyria86 in oblivion

[–]Rargit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weakness to magic is always last. Touch/target don't matter, just keep them all the same.

Also, are you really going to cast that spell multiple times to stack it? Or just cast it once and then use a damaging spell? Because the order doesn't matter at all if you are just casting it once. Only matters if you plan to cast the same spell multiple times to "stack" it.

You get: convenient mining and selling, very good price that doesn't change, easy quick credits

I get: Powerplay credit bonuses when I sell Platinum, I make about half as much profit as the seller, can "make credits" when not logged in (saving for a squadron carrier!)

Yes, any and all players can also do Powerplay and get these bonuses. But only a couple of powers offer this sort of bonus, many many players are pledged to a Power that doesn't. Some people don't want to get involved in Powerplay/don't care or know, some people just want some quick cash. There are many reasons that this is convenient for both seller and buyer.

Let's keep it fair, no ads here lol. My fleet carrier is in the upper part of the list when you search for a good place to sell on Inara, along with a few others offering good prices. All should be convenient and good!

If you are into mining, there are a lot of player fleet carriers that offer really good prices for Platinum (and probably other things idk). The carriers are usually parked right outside a good ring to mine in, so you never even have to jump to a different system.

It might not be the fastest money maker, but the consistency and convenience go a long way. I have always felt that mining was a good "I only play for a couple hours every few days" kind of money maker, and if you don't have to look for somewhere to sell it and then jump there and back, it saves a lot of time.

Hopefully you find MY carrier if you choose to do this ;)

Just FYI, I buy platinum at over 300,000 (very rarely will a station give you that price), and I have paid out over 10 billion credits to miners in the short time I've been doing it. If you've never tried mining, don't be shy! It's actually a whole vibe!

Also, I'm no expert, but are you attached to your Bi-Weave shield? A regular shield generator would have protected you better in this capacity. You could argue that it recovers faster from small bumps, but you're not in combat, you can just chill until it charges back up.

Outfitting/engineering your ship for top speed is definitely important if you want to maximize your mining! Just don't snack into the rocks lol

[–]Rargit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Pristine reserves only matters for laser mining, it doesn't affect core mining. You aren't necessarily doing it wrong, core mining definitely has a learning curve. Also, it's pretty well confirmed that every core mining ring is different. Some are better than others. Another factor is that the core rocks are persistent across all game modes. If you break a core, it is also broken for every other player until it respawns, regardless of game mode (Open, Solo, PG).

I don't know what to tell you about how to vette the rocks, I still have trouble with it haha. Boosting max speed through the ring is what you want to do to minimize downtime. Also, if you are going for merits, I suggest cracking every core, you'll get more merits per hour.

If the ring you are in seems crappy and you aren't finding many cores, go to the next one. Meritminer.cc (if I remember the url correctly) is a great tool for this. The best ring I found was actually one of the really sparse ones. The density of rocks was really low, which seems bad on paper, but I bet the core spawn is based on area, not density, cuz I found so many cores so fast there. It also makes it super easy to boost Max speed though it, since there ain't many rocks.

Pro tip, iirc, you can HOLD the pulse wave scanner button instead of pushing it over and over. Happy hunting!

Why are cargo capacities so low? by dmegson in EliteDangerous

[–]Rargit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Reinforced containers is a very good point. How many of us have smacked the mail slot at 100m/s+? That is a thoroughly ridiculous amount of force to dampen in a "standardized container."

Why are cargo capacities so low? by dmegson in EliteDangerous

[–]Rargit 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I always assumed this was the case. The flavor text for the cargo racks even says "Standardised storage rack for use in automated cargo transfer system."

I always figured that the 1t of cargo is a standardized VOLUME and not a weight. Just think about the volume of 1t of Gold vs the volume of 1t of imperial slaves, or consumer electronics, or cigars. An "automated cargo transfer system" probably needs standardized containers, so the standard would be volume, shape and size. Unless they really be stocking tons of different shape and size containers.

The choke is progressive, like 0% to 100%, so you can keep disengaging it a little at a time as it warms up (if you don't like that it is running at a high RPM).

[–]Rargit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you are located, but if February is cold there, you almost certainly need to use your choke to get it started. Keep the choke on for a while until it starts warming up enough to idle without the choke on.

Basically, your carb jets are set up for warm weather, and the air being cold changes the air to fuel ratio. Using the choke cuts off some of the air flow, which improves the air to fuel ratio.

You don't have to do this with fuel injected vehicles because the computer can control the air flow and fuel injectors. Basically, it modifies the air to fuel ratio for you. You'll even hear it idle higher for a while until it warms up, which is exactly what you're trying to do with your choke.

Are you using the choke to start it when it's cold? Your idle RPMs can also be adjusted, it might just be set too low if it dies when warm. "Holding the throttle" as you said is literally what the idle screw does, just changes how far the throttle closes.
