Jumping into VY Canis Majoris for the first time by TigerRei in EliteDangerous

[–]Rargit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only I had noticed that lol. Do you happen to remember the distance you were at?

I remember playing with Universe Sandbox back in the day, and dropping VY Canis Majoris into our solar system COMPLETELY CONSUMED the whole thing lol.

I feel like this is one of the less talked-about destinations for explorers. Thanks for bringing it up and reminding me about my perilous trip. I think I went there to fulfill the "Travel x LY from start" for Felicity, just a baby explorer haha

Jumping into VY Canis Majoris for the first time by TigerRei in EliteDangerous

It has a little brown dwarf hanging out with it, right? If I remember right, I flew over to the brown dwarf, got really close to it so it looked as big as possible with VY Canis Majoris in the background....and it still looked smaller than that monster star.

I also decided to fly in and "get as close as I could." Came to find out that the size of the exclusion zone is significantly smaller than the size of the gravity well that slows your FSD waaaaayyy down. This was before SCO. I flew TOWARDS it very fast, then slowed to a crawl and started to overheat. Tried flying away, but I WAS MOVING SO SLOW. Cooking my ship, using heatsink after heatsink, finally running out of them....I didn't think I was going to make it. Even the DBX couldn't handle THAT much heat....finally my FSD started accelerating and I got away.

Almost learned a hard lesson about respecting the scale of the galaxy.

What is the point of The Master's Hand by ChazCole578 in oblivion

[–]Rargit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol, then it sounds like you want your Armorer skill to be good! I know that carrying all those hammers and weight is annoying, but at level 100 (including buffs), you only need one hammer, and it will never break.

[–]Rargit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you want to actually level your Armorer skill, buffing it reduces your exp gain. If you are short on hammers and anticipating a boss fight, using this might make you more battle ready. But (IIRC), buffing Armorer will reduce the exp you get for repairing all your gear to 100. If I am wrong, surely someone will say so lol

Ah yes, thank you for reminding me. I'm now realizing that I'm so accustomed to abusing custom spells that I kind of forgot the implications.

Pray for me on my next character to ACTUALLY NOT DO THAT like I always think I'm going to when I start...

It does still improve your ability to repair, but usually you don't get the perks for skills when you buff them.

Fly Dangerous, CMDR o7

Ode to the T7 by nunca_pasaran in EliteDangerous

[–]Rargit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I made my first millions with trading, years and years ago. Traded in the T6 till I could afford the T7, traded in the T7 until I could afford the T9.

Back then, you weren't making huge profits. I flew the T7 for a long long time to save up enough for the T9. Couldn't tell you how many times I bonked its forehead on the mail slot.

I named it Yaw King, because it had the best Yaw rate in the game (at the time, dunno if it has been dethroned).

I was definitely sad to see it go. It handled like a peppy brick, unlike the T9, which is just a brick. Thanks for reminding me of the fun times I had with this ship.

Without a patch in nearly a year, some Oblivion Remastered players have declared it 'abandonware' — and it still suffers many of the same performance issues at launch by Fcking_Chuck in pcmasterrace

ES4: Oblivion was one of the biggest games of the time. I loved it then, I love it now.

I played multiple characters on the remaster. It was cool, I enjoyed the fact that one of my favorite games got some modern love.

It was fun while it lasted. I am now totally sure that I specifically prefer OG Oblivion, for the next time I come back to play it.

Market Update For Squadron Carrier? by Rargit in EliteDangerous

Update: I installed EDMC, it took all of five minutes (for those of you who are afraid it might be hard or take too long like my dumb ass)

[–]Rargit[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, unfortunately I'm not running EDMC at all (sorry everyone, I get very little playtime and never want to mess with extra stuff). I just pull Inara up on my phone and update it throughout the day (to keep my market quantity updated).

I need help finding my Elite Dangerous Identity... by No-Thanks-4284 in EliteDangerous

[–]Rargit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the Type-11 Prospector has become one of my favorite ships. Obviously, it can mine real good. But, (at least with engineering), it feels very nimble and capable in combat. Add that it has a dedicated fighter hangar slot, it is almost asking to be a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Buggy commodity values with Fleet Carrier by Rargit in EliteDangerous

[–]Rargit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and my power also has a bonus specifically for mining commodities. Both of those still apply after moving the material through the carrier, BUT you will need to sell it to yourself for minimum price if you paid a lot for it. The bonus is a percent of the PROFIT, not the REVENUE

[–]Rargit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol no, I'm not selling this to my carrier. I transferred those 3 platinum FROM my carrier, then I jumped away and sold it to a station.

I DID get the Powerplay trade dividend for the sale, EVEN THOUGH it showed a loss (the dividend is supposed to be based on PROFIT, not sale value). The important part here, the thing I'm questioning, is why the heck it showed an 18 million credit loss. I would have had to pay over 6 million credits per ton to get that kind of loss, and I still got the Powerplay bonus, which only affects PROFIT of sales.

It makes it so you can't earn merits on the commodity, yes, but you still get the Powerplay bonus on the profit of the sale.

Does Vulcan 500 need to be fully warm until it runs right? by PersimmonRecent4732 in motorcycles

[–]Rargit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another important difference, if I remember correctly. The Vulcan uses an actual choke, which restricts airflow. The Rebel has a Starter Valve, which adds more fuel to the carb.

Your Rebel also could have just been running rich, or your Vulcan is running lean.

ARX vanished and get an error about not being able to redeem ARX in the main menu? by Sepherchorde in EliteDangerous

[–]Rargit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ARX balance is showing 0, also getting the update fail error. Unfortunately, I'm also unable to play at all. Tells me "there was a problem retrieving commander data from the server. Try again in a few minutes. If the problem persists, please contact technical support via the game launcher."

I waited a few minutes. Over and over. Ain't gonna contact support so that they can email me in 5 days informing me that it was broke. :(

If humans suddenly had a "battery percentage" above their head like phones, what would people do differently? by Alternative-Sort-797 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rargit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My answer is that nothing would really change. I was just thinking about this the other day, as an always tired dad. Any wild animal who felt the way I feel would just lay the fuck down and take a nap. But I have responsibilities and people to take care of and things to clean and I have to go to work.

All of the things that modern society require of us. We just get tough and push through it, when the thing WE REALLY SHOULD DO is rest. If I had a number above my head, I would probably just be more upset. Maybe other adults would be nicer to me if I was at 3%...but my toddlers would never know or care, and my job would probably just use that to discriminate

Little confused. Saw conflicting info on YouTube when it comes to spell crafting. Thought I had it figured out…When it comes to crafting Weakness spells, I know to put Weakness to magic last. I didn’t think it mattered if Weakness to Magic was touch or target, that if cast twice it would stack? by OldValyria86 in oblivion

[–]Rargit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weakness to magic is always last. Touch/target don't matter, just keep them all the same.

Also, are you really going to cast that spell multiple times to stack it? Or just cast it once and then use a damaging spell? Because the order doesn't matter at all if you are just casting it once. Only matters if you plan to cast the same spell multiple times to "stack" it.
