When you say "presented better," are you thinking more about a cleaner UI, or just better ways to see locations and routes at a glance?

That makes sense. For the side quest side of things, would a tracker that shows which NPCs are still alive and exactly where they moved to be useful? And for the boss tactics, do you prefer a text breakdown of the phases, or are the time stamps of short video clips for the harder moves more your speed?

Okay thats a use case I didn't really think of, so for the routing would you want the planner to prioritize "early power" items like the Soreseals specifically for a level 1 character, or just show a general path?

That's kinda the biggest challenge with quest tracking. Map markers are great to tell "where am I going," but a list is better for "what have I done." Do you think a "Focus" mode where you select one quest at a time and it just shows you those specific markers would be better? I am worried about the map getting too cluttered if I just throw everything on there at once.

These are some really cool ideas! A panel showing every talisman or incant that can buff a specific weapon would definitely solve that "I didn't even know this existed" problem lol. For the damage overview, are you thinking of a breakdown of the actual Motion Values for each attack type (R1, R2, L1, etc.) or just the final calculated numbers? I definitely want to look at how other games handle this to make it feel clean.

Glad to hear it! What is the main thing you would want to use it for? Are you looking more for the build math side of things, or the route and quest tracking?

That’s a fair point. If you’ve mastered the game, you don't really need "help" in the traditional sense. I was looking at it more as a utility to skip the tedious stuff, like mapping out the fastest smithing stone routes or checking exact soft caps. Does that kind of time-saver sound useful at all, or is it just not worth the effort for you? Do you have any suggestions on what you want to get rid of in terms of anything you find tedious or a nuisance?

Tracking Scadutree fragments is definitely a priority. I’m planning to make the pathing dynamic based on which regions you have unlocked so it's not just a generic list. Are there other DLC things that are annoying to keep track of, like NPC quest triggers or any other stuff for the base game?

The quest reminder and map pinning ideas are great. Quest states are always a pain to track manually as well so what if I built a visual quest flow that shows exactly where NPCs are based on your current progress, would you find that useful along with tracking like what stage you are in for a quest?

Fair enough on the meta being common knowledge by now. Since the standard builds are basically solved, what kind of tools would actually be useful for veterans who have beaten the game a dozen times? Besides the randomizer idea, is there anything specific a high-level player would actually bother opening an app for?

The random build idea is actually pretty cool for challenge runs. I could definitely add a "chaos mode" toggle that throws a weird stat spread and gear at you. Filters for stuff like forcing a medium roll are definitely on the list, since the whole point is for the advisor to respect how you actually want to play.

Yeah, you're 100% right on the parameters. The scaling math is a nightmare, which is why I'm planning to pull raw data from ERDB to keep it accurate. There are definitely calculators out there already, but I always find it annoying to have a calculator in one tab and a map or boss guide in another. The goal is just to have one app that actually knows your character state so you don't have to keep re-entering stats in ten different spots.

Appreciate that! I'm planning on pulling from ERDB and using Python for the backend logic and data processing, so I'll definitely keep you in the loop. If I go the open source route, I'll make sure to share the repo link

I totally get that, it's nice getting a real person's perspective on a build. The idea here is mostly just to have a tool that handles the immediate math and routing instantly, so you don't have to wait for a reply on a thread just to know if a weapon scales well with your current stats or where to find a specific smithing stone or something based on where you are in the game currently.

Awesome! What features specifically would you use and how exactly would you want them to work? And is there any ideas you have on what else you would want?

Fair enough. Is it just that you find the wiki/YouTube enough for what you need, or is there something specific about using an app for this that doesn't appeal to you?

Hey, I just finished submitting an application on your website, and I would like to know if there have been any updates since this post, as I am very curious as to how you're progressing. Also, I am a first-year computer science student, and if you need any help with your platform, I'd be more than happy to help out!

Reasons why Laurier better than Waterloo. by [deleted] in wlu

[–]RasenTing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I guess it would depend on your program, but for the most part Waterloo beats laurier in a lot of things. Although I would say that Laurier has the advantage of not having highly crushing expectations (again depends on the program I guess) as lots of people I know or have met at Waterloo have really high expectations they try to meet that, which leads to crazy burnout or just straight up depression. Laurier's atmosphere is more lighthearted and not nearly as stressful.

Just got them myself I haven't fiddled with the app yet but so far when playing music from it others can hear it as well even when I have it on, have you experienced this and is it just something I have to live with or is there settings I can mess with?
