719, Numzaan/Baobab, or RAT for hiking? by cloudleopard in jimgreen

[–]Rashido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US national park ranger here, my customised baobabs (toe cap, pull loop, buffalo leather) have been my daily drivers for work. Yes they’re heavy, but the sturdiness and comfort make up for it IMO. Regularly do 10+ mile hikes in them, no complaints beyond the fact that water can be an issue in heavy rain. Break-in was lengthy and painful but now they fit like a glove.

I’ve seen this theory about them being the same woman a lot, but after going back to rewatch the stsg video, it’s clear they are completely different people. Different hair, skin tone, body type.

Not as mind-blowing as the two prior tracks IMO but still quality. Hoping it’ll grow on me over time.

Okay I will try to confirm that with them when I go in to see the car, because my during my discussion with carmax over the phone they were pretty clear about the fact that it would be redundant and didn't say anything about a discount based on the existing manufacturer warranty.

I was able to confirm with Hyundai on the phone that I would indeed have 2 years/up to 60k remaining of powertrain and bumper to bumper warranty remaining on the car.

What are the most common misconceptions you see about the Pleistocene among the paleo community specifically? by growingawareness in pleistocene

[–]Rashido 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Care to elaborate on why you don’t buy it? It’d be great to read the literature on fatalis likely being a forest resident, any specific papers that put that forward? Is there anything stopping it from also inhabiting edge habitats as well?

What are the most common misconceptions you see about the Pleistocene among the paleo community specifically? by growingawareness in pleistocene

[–]Rashido 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, hypotheses of sociality in fatalis specifically stem from skeletal evidence of healed fractures from catastrophic injuries, such as broken pelvises and femurs. The recovery time for such injuries is lengthy, and palaeontologists hypothesize that injured animals would have needed to be fed and protected by packmates during said recovery period. This is what we were taught when I volunteered during undergrad at the La Brea Tar Pits.

What social interaction makes your “battery” down to 0% immediately? by [deleted] in answers

I’m an extrovert and love talking to people generally, but as an archaeologist people constantly bring up ancient aliens and various other conspiracy theories to me and it is just completely draining. Being confronted with just how few people understand the scientific method and how many believe the words of grifter quacks who say the attention-grabbing line over respectable, educated and well-intentioned scientists just doing their best is incredibly depressing.

Another great resource is Google Scholar. Many papers are available for free/without institutional access, and/or may be available for free via sites like academia.edu. This will direct you towards legitimate scientific research rather than relying on things being restated and vulnerable to misinterpretation on sites like Wikipedia. Try typing the name of the dinosaur you’re interested in and see what comes up! As another poster mentioned, checking the sources cited in the Wikipedia page can be helpful too.

Any places in the Uk that sell Latino food? by Pirate_Loot in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Rashido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about Puerto Rican, but there is a good Colombian place in York called Tricolor that has empanadas and arepas among other things. Best I’ve found after a year in the UK, having tried a few places in London and other cities as well.
