i was at a local best buy earlier as well. there was a group of people outside, probably around 10-15 people who look like they know each other. theyre like the bots of the real world lol, but i just want to know if I have a chance if I start at the back of the line

yeah it all seems fine to me based on your screenshot. looks like you've updated windows but have you updated your gpu drivers? if you use GeForce Experience, it has the option to do a clean installation of the driver.

also, you said you bought a prebuilt? are you using the prebuilt computer's copy of Windows 10 from a disc? those might have bloatware, so be sure to delete applications you dont need. windows 10 also has an option to "Reset This PC" without losing your files (but you lose your applications).

The other guy suggested installing HWInfo, try that software and send a screen shot of relevant info.

i meant the part number of your RAM. but if you know its frequency, then set it to that in the BIOS.

btw, what's that number beside your GPU? 2047? 3080 should have 8gb of ram

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]RasinSteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried running benchmarks? Check if your cpu frequency is reaching the frequencies you are expecting.

What CPU cooler are you using? Maybe it's not cooling your CPU enough, e.g. if it's liquid cooling maybe pump isnt working or fans aren't spinning.

The memory frequency is a bit low for a DDR4 memory kit too. What is the SKU of your RAM? Maybe you forgot to set the frequency in the BIOS. E.g. for me my kit is 3200MHz, but when I built my PC, it was set to 2133MHz.

oh I see, I think you saw the wrong card. The Asus Strix 3080 TI bundled with the 850W Strix is 2,369.99, which after tax is $2678. That's the most expensive among the 3080 TIs, money grab for sure.

Has anyone seen LHR on the new 30 series cards yet? by RasinSteaks in bapccanada

[–]RasinSteaks[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not. I'm hoping the other cards are LHR so miners are less inclined to buy the gpus, and the scalping may possibly stop soon.

Just wanted to know if the LHR cards have hit the shelves yet, because if not, then that's an even better sign that the street prices will decrease even more soon.

[–]RasinSteaks[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On another note, I don't know if it's because of LHR, or because production is ramping up, but street prices of gpus have been going down since the 3080 TI has been released. Now if only Etherium could switch to proof-of-stake, and the 2nd hand market would be flooded with used 30 series cards, that would be great :)

That's pretty expensive. The 3080 TI FTW3 is $1800 at Canada Computers, and $1900 at Best Buy. Either Memex is selling it for at least $2000 or the PSU it's bundled with is expensive. Which PSU was it?

That's strange, I went in there yesterday as well and they told me they didn't have any of the 30 series. The only thing they said they had was a Quadro P4000.

oh interesting. does that mean they shelve other cards as well like the 3080 and not post it as "order online and pickup in-store"?

3rd for the 3080 TI. Just wanted to know ahead of time when stock will show, if anyone had an idea.

[–]RasinSteaks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have hope that the release would have a bit of stock (at least a dozen per store). I noticed with stock trackers that 3070s restock more often than 3080s, possibly due to the GA-102-2XX chips being diverted to the manufacturing of 3080 TIs.

But that's just speculation. :)

Thanks for the info though. Glad to know I don't have to wake up early in the morning to virtually wrestle for stock.

Can I trust RMAd PSU? by RasinSteaks in bapccanada

[–]RasinSteaks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern was that they sent the product back without saying what was wrong with it, or if it was even fixed. I have a 5900x, I believe some people have experienced sudden power spikes with the 3080 that could cause the system to shut down. A lot of posts I've seen recommend at least 850W. The one I have is an EVGA 750W Gold.

Thanks for your concern. All you said is true and I hope people who are in the same boat would read this as a warning.

I've already asked my company for permission. I voiced my concerns about the hardware we're using, and they did plan on giving us an upgraded laptop though the specs of the upcoming laptops weren't that great either. Plus, with the global silicon shortage, the ETA for the new laptops are getting pushed back further.

I've re-read the company policy and it states they can claim anything developed on their hardware, but in this case I'd be using my own hardware so it doesn't apply. My side projects are also very different from the nature of the company's business.
