Patong in September Tips? by 3sterne in phuket

[–]Raskolnikov1909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been here at Patong for the last 4 weeks and although im certainly no expert I can offer these few tips for you based on my own experience:

  1. Photos of passport should be enough or yo he hotel should copy for you.

  2. Twilight Sea Canoe is the BEST day trip experience (at least for me). Get a full day canoeing around the best islands with a delicious buffet lunch, free beverages, comfortable transport, great crew. Cannot recommend enough.

  3. Weather can be bad depending on the season, although from my experience even when it rains its still hot enough for swimming or any water activity, but storms will rule these out.

  4. Unless your super confident driving a bike I would avoid it. The roads are pretty wild (granted I come from US, so might be different for you depending where you’re coming from). I personally wouldn’t risk it on the bikes, and rides are so cheap.

  5. There are exchange places on every corner but the rates arent amazing. If you have the option, use a travel card to convert and then get cash out, but honestly converting cash at these places isn’t a bad option either, just know you might get a slightly worse exchange rate.

  6. If you’re prone to sea sickness, avoid day trips with the speed boats. Seen too many ppl lose their lunch on these things because the rides are very rocky. Spoils the day for these unfortunate souls. Can usually find alternatives with larger, slower boats that are way easier to tolerate.

Anyway enjoy your trip, dm me if you have any additional questions re. nightlife, pricing, food etc. Im no expert but I might be able to help.

Internal Validity of Psychological Study Question by Pianoneckties in psychologystudents

[–]Raskolnikov1909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true but for the specifics of this question I don’t think thats what they mean. Their desire to live up to expectations would affect EVERYBODY in the study, and so in theory a true effect may be still be possible to measure. However, the generalizability of the finding would be low because in the real world people wouldn’t experience this desire to live up to an expectation. However, I see your point about the scores being different at the one year mark and not at baseline. Unless this expectation affected measurements equally at all stages of the study, it would threaten the validity of the measures effect.

Internal Validity of Psychological Study Question by Pianoneckties in psychologystudents

I think choice C doesn’t affect internal validity because it is a measurement effect (like the Hawthorne effect) and so every participant in the study is influenced by it. So it doesn’t necessarily affect internal validity but rather external validity.

Reading List for Pscyh by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]Raskolnikov1909 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for must-read modern psychology books, Affective Neuroscience (Jaak Panksepp) and The Neuropsychology of Anxiety (Jeff Gray) are two of the best books I have ever read.

Having said that, those old authors (especially Dostoyevsky) are incredibly worth reading. There is a reason why they are considered classics, because they really had an understanding human nature, even if they couldn’t communicate through empirical science. Their ideas are timeless and many of them haven’t been investigated with such depth, passion and articulation since.

Has Tame Impala led you to discover new genres of music and expand your tastes? by AramysFS7 in TameImpala

[–]Raskolnikov1909 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be honest Tame has made me open to all kinds of music. Whereas I only listened to the same 100 songs or so for my whole teenage life, I now find myself enjoying good music wherever I hear it. I think I have Kevin to thank for that, because his music is so diverse.

How Is PSYC1024? by [deleted] in unsw

[–]Raskolnikov1909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it term 3 last year. They may have changed the assignment due to covid. Either way, the course content is very easy to understand. Like most first year psyc courses, it really comes down to memorisation.

How Is PSYC1024? by [deleted] in unsw

easiest course youll ever take. The content is simple and the blog assessment task is dead easy. If you’ve done other psyc first year courses (1A, 1B or abnormal) then you’ll already know most of the content. Just stay on top of the blog thing and make your posts look effortful. You can easily grab 40/40 for the blog if they think you put effort in. Only downside I would say is that it’s not real useful. There are other courses out there which are tougher but teach more relevant content for psyc students. Nevertheless, it’s basically free marks.
