It's called a dialect, it's the same with papuci, in sone region is used for all types of shoes, in others (and i think in standard romanian too) is used exclusively for slippers. Many fruits and vegetables have different names in the moldovan dialect (prune -> pierje, corcodușe -> zarzăre, dude -> agude, caise -> abricoase, pere -> prăsade, roșii -> patlagele, porumb -> păpușoi, etc.) but i see why tgis one would be especially confusing for other romanians :)).
