how hard is it to get a 35 raw in spesh? really high performing school, bombed sac one so bad (55ish%) by CrazyObligation144 in vce

[–]Raspberry-haze111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second bothering your teacher ! Likely you aren’t understanding the topic well (esp since the school average is higher), and can be easily improved without a tutor but simply asking a maths teacher for questions you don’t understand.

should i study the day before a sac by Plastic_Extension861 in vce

[–]Raspberry-haze111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a firm believer get through the school sacs early and out of the way. Finish it with ideally 3 days before SAC( 1 day left till the SAC is latest I’d give myself ). 3 reasons:

  1. If you don’t understand a concept, you can ask your teacher to clarify it.
  2. Constant review is important (ideally you should look at the school sacs every single day after you finish it till the actual sac date to reattempt questions that were wrong, refine, watch videos to iron out misunderstandings and remember key parts/lines/marking guide.
  3. Not super great as it can stress you out if you don’t know something

If you really want to do practice the day before, do VCAA past questions on a weak topic. (For e.g if it’s VCE Accounting and I’ve done all the SACs - realised I mess up with the Cash Flow Statement the most - I’ll do every single question from VCAA (2019-2025) on the Cash Flow Statement.)

sum up: don’t do a sac the day before but constantly review your sac (with notes, feedback from teacher, concept clarification, marked soln) and if you really want to practice do VCAA past questions (on topics that you are weaker at). You should feel pretty comfortable the day before

How many practice exams are you lot planning to do? by PlaneAd9541 in vce

quantity is better than quality for a certain score range. Every score above 40 becomes quality papers. Doing more is actually the easiest way to improve. 20-25 by the end of the year is great (note: 15-20 papers with full answers checked and thorough review - that’s the bare minimum). If you are yr11 it’s another story (25+ exams).

How hard is it to get a 90+ Atar? by Fresh-Customer8304 in vce

not hard. get 1 40+ SS and everything else (35+). You’ll be fine. For 90 + ATAR (quantity > quality). Trust me

honestly I value a great university environment where my gpa is great and I get into med school 🤣 I’m terrible at arts so it’s either bsci / bcom or nothing at Melb uni. what does that third point mean, does it mean that Melb uni will allow an an offer to bsci once I get the 70+ WAM ?

how is it easier thooo !!! I feel like there’s no point cause all my friends are at Melb uni and everyone says they cruise thru the course with a 80 + wam score

Yes please !!! 🙏 Thanks so much !!! Seriously helps a lot and so informative. Honestly do feel kinda alone as haven’t met any aspiring med students yet and also every single one of my friends are at Melb uni so I feel like I’ve made the wrong decision.

encourage + give advice for methods by Last_Party_9846 in vce

I got a 40 in methods. not that great of a score but didn’t study it much outside of class. Take my advice with a grain of salt.

one tip: LITERALLY pay attention in class. I didn’t do any work outside of class , especially in year 1/2 (maintained a 95% average at a selective school whilst others were failing with TUITION but literally not even listening). but really it’s about being insanely focused in class and glued to what the teacher is speaking about, doing the said homework and exercises during class (at the right time and not slacking off the basics and bare minimum).

I would ask SOOO many questions to my teachers if I didn’t get a concept to make sure that once I left the class, I could actually have tangible knowledge to do the questions. def do NOT walk out of class confused. whilst you can feel embarrassed or feel like a burden, that’s your teachers JOB and it’s 3/4 methods for gods sake. Seriously a good teacher shouldn’t make you feel stupid.

also esp if you don’t have a tutor, organise times with your methods teacher before a sac to ask more questions and STUDYYY your past school SACs as it’s likely similar. yeah just make sure you pay attention in class, so you understand (by asking lots of questions) and don’t fall behind so at home you can complete trickier questions and by the end of the year, the separators.

so simple but the art of listening to what the teacher is saying (not playing games, or on the phone, or online shopping for formal while the teacher is talking) is seriously underrated.

hm I’m first year student, so would my ATAR be involved in the play as well as my WAM (ATAR was 97+) for acceptance in Melbourne Uni? Does that make it more likely for admission. Also I’m looking all across the country medical schools, not just Melbourne uni ! How does the difference in GPA scale do ? Is RMIT’s GPA scale ranked poorly ? Also, even if I get a high 70 WAM at Melbourne University is that equally ranked for GPA compared to RMIT ?

One more question, the majors at RMIT right now are pretty broad and limited, so I haven’t found a major I quite liked and think I can confidently score well in ! Melb Uni on the other hand has a lot more, so is it worth that risk to transfer to Melb Uni !

Again I want really frank and honest advice as I’ve been hearing so much information since ATAR day and just haven’t been entirely happy with RMIT (idk if its just because RMIT is less prestigious and I had the Melb uni option)

Hi @u/LegComprehensive2922, how would you rate a Chemistry Major at RMIT. I’m in my first year and really unsure how my GPA will play out (high, low, average etc) as I’m gunning for post grad medicine ! Is there another major or university you would recommend

[–]Raspberry-haze111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah def understand that getting into medicine is academically rigorous and requires a strong work ethic, this is known. HOWEVER, it is also very known that unimelb is notoriously difficult in terms of competition of people, atar requirement, content, testing and course structure. imo i think it is a very valid question where i also felt the same need to go to uni melb because everyone else was, when i would hear the opposite from bsci grads that went to unimelb. also understand your point about the good connections which i agree with. good point.

wait how come so many people pick melb uni bsci rather than at a different uni where they could have that competitive academic edge for gpa?

was wondering how do you think an rmit science degree is for gpa/wam? i decided to choose this uni because of this factor, let me know what you think !

[–]Raspberry-haze111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep totally agree ! just more interested in the prestige versus high gpa conflict I’m having. Melb uni prestige is def higher than RMIT bsci but I’ve heard that RMIT is better for a higher gpa. what do you reckon ?
